Defying The Normalcy

Color in a black and white world

About Me

Imagine yourself sitting on top of a hill looking down upon rolling hills and green pastures. The grass is gently swaying in the wind and the sky is glowing blue above you. The air is cool but the light of the sun is warming your skin. You are totally relaxed and at peace. That's how we want to make you feel with the sound of our music. We like to think that Defying the Normalcy is more than just another band out there looking for their fifteen minutes of fame. We want to make music that will be able to reach all audiences. We want our music to be something unique and wonderful and to reach the world in ways most music cannot. We try to put out a positive message through our music something everyone can relate to. Our lyrics are serious and some of our songs were even written about times in our lives where it has been the hardest for us. Defying the Normalcy was formed in 2005, spawning from Fred's creative ideas with an acoustic guitar and Amanda's desire to experiment vocally and create music that was unique and new. Defying the Normalcy is a two person band from Grand Rapids, Michigan with Fred Schneider playing the acoustic guitar with some background vocals and Amanda Spaanstra singing lead vocals. We hope to show the world that there is still good music and that there is hope for the world. In a world of war and pain we hope we can bring new light to a dying world and show people that peace solves more than violence and war. We hope to someday be able to share our music with a wider audience and touch the lives of everyone.

Band Members: Amanda Spaanstra VocalsAmanda Spaanstra was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan and grew up nearby in Rockford, Michigan. Ever since she can remember, she has loved music and the arts, be it painting and visual arts, theatre, and, of course, music. She has played the piano for over ten years and has been singing all of her life.Amanda is currently studying costume design for theatre at a small private college where she is a sophomore, but still enjoys performing, and she started Defying the Normalcy with Fred as a result of her love of sharing her talent with an audience. She hopes that her unique style will inspire listeners and other musicians alike to not settle for the same old sound.Fred Schneider Acoustic GuitarFred Joseph Schneider was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan and lived in Sparta, Michigan for the first part of his life. He attend school in Sparta until the third grade when he moved to Comstock Park, Michigan where attended school from grade four until graduation. He currently resides in Grand Rapids, Michigan and is twenty years old.He plays acoustic guitar for the band 'Defying The Normalcy'. He also played bass guitar for the local Grand Rapids band 'Iillyad' that has played several shows around the Grand Rapids Area. He has also done other projects like his solo project 'Factory 108' , a bass/vocal band. 'The Chiles Experience' was just a joke band with some friends including the drummer Mike Sabo from Iillyad and Rj Dobben from Iillyad.Fred Schneider was also in the band 'Your Last Hope' a three person band from Comstock Park, Michigan that never really took off. It was more of a basement band you could say and just a learning experience. Fred has been playing acoustic guitar for 2-3 years and the bass guitar for the same amount of time. His first guitar was a 6 string electric Ion guitar that he never played. He decided he didn't care much for the guitar then the next Christmas his parents bought him a bass guitar. He started out playing the bass guitar and just played 6 string on the side. Then just recently he decided to purchase an acoustic guitar and pursue playing the guitar since he has several ideas and a growing passion for it.Fred can also play some drums, harmonica, and he is trying to learn some banjo as well. Defying The Normalcy, to Fred, is the most wonderful thing he has ever been a part of. It is the most comfortable experience in music he has ever had. Fred hopes to someday become a famous musician and share his music with the world. He wants to create a unique sound and something different in music that no one has ever heard.Additional Information on FredAge: 20 Hobbies: Playing Guitar, Playing Bass Guitar, Computers, Drawing, Writing, Photography Favorite Foods: Cheeseburger Hamburger Helper, Taco's, Pizza, Rice with Cream of Mushroom Soup, Popcorn, Corndogs, Velveta Shells and Cheese, Yesterdog!
