The ebullient Floria Sigismondi has shaped a unique identity for herself as a director, photographer and artist. Her provocative image making is comprised of a spectrum of artistic disciplines -- painting, sculpture, design, photography and film -- everything she touches is transformed and amalgamated to construct an intense, imaginative style.Floria, named after a character in the opera Tosca, was born in 1965 in Pescara, Italy to opera singer parents. When she was two years old, the family emigrated to Canada where Floria's formative years were divided between the creative, unconventional household in the industrial town of Hamilton, Ontario. But no single medium could contain Floria's creative urges. In the midst of a successful career as a fashion photographer, Floria expanded her repertoire to include directing and it has been with directing that her work has attained its fullest dimension. With motion, sound, lighting, wardrobe, and elaborate settings to ensconce her, Floria's video work is characterized by the kind of theatrical and dramatic imagery found in the great tragedies of Italian opera or Greek mythology.Floria's penchant for entropic underworlds inhabited by tortured souls and omnipotent beings arise from her self-described "scandalous" subconscious. These nebulous realms are revealed to her in dreams or in the meditative state of fatigued delirium that occurs while hovering between sleep and wakefulness. Her seemingly aberrant creations have attracted the talents of David Bowie, Marilyn Manson, The Cure, Fiona Apple, Living Things, White Stripes, Interpol, Sigur Ros, Tricky, Plant/Page, and Sheryl Crow.Floria is in the middle of promotion for the release of her second book titled, "IMMUNE", following her first release "REDEMPTION". You can buy the books at amazon.com She is also currently writing a screenplay for a feature film.
