My Interests

Main interests: - PEOPLE... WRITING [have one completed ms and a second almost complete] but yet to find a publisher :-[ ... MUSIC of nearly all types and eras... CINEMA... PHOTOGRAPHY... CYCLING SWIMMING WALKING... TRAVEL... Wild and lonely places, especially those beside the ocean... Most of all I love ISLANDS. Of those I've been lucky enough to visit, my favourites are Kuramathi [Maldives] Moorea & Tahiti [Polynesia] Rottnest [Western Australia], Vancouver island [Canada], Santorini & Hydra [Greece] Iona & Skye [Scotland,] Bryher & Tresco, Scilly isles [England], Isle of Man - and the smallest of all - Hen Island, Lough Erne [N. Ireland] You could walk around that one in ten minutes, but when I was a kid three friends and I spent three days there in a tent!!

I'd like to meet:

If you're a warm-hearted, caring and open-minded person - interested in "listening" as well as in "talking" - then Yes I do want to meet you! (However, if you're a cynical, negative person, obsessed with yourself or with physical superficiality, then maybe we have little in common.)

Music:

I love nearly all music from all eras, and always open to new music and new artists... (I'm very much a fan of the phyical format - my collection consists of literally thousands of vinyl and cds... I do have an ipod but I'm much less interested in transitory downloads)I love especially singer-songwriters from the folk tradition, but I also love many of the "new" slighty left-field brit/us groups like Klaxons, Hoosiers, Plain white T's...From Aha to Anastacia; Baez to Beatles; Keane to Kubb; Madonna to Mercury Rev; Petula to the Pet Shop Boys, Carly Simon to Paul Simon; Zero 7 to Zombies ... and thousands of others in between!Favourite all time tracks:- America by Simon & Garfunkel; No Regrets by Walker Brothers; I am I said by Neil Diamond; Spinning Away by Sugar Ray; Diamonds & Rust by Joan Baez; Paradise is Here by Tina Turner, Fast Car by Tracy Chapman [A common theme runs through them all...]

Movies:

All time Favourite movies: Dr Zhivago/Don't Look Now/Far from the Madding Crowd/2001/Ryan's Daughter/Rebecca/Vertigo/Psycho More recent favourites: Breach [stick with it -- it's excellent] Dark City/Memento/Lives of others/Lemming/Hidden/Tell no one/Dans Paris/Two days in Paris [viva French cinema!!]

Television:

Lost.... Bring Back TOTP!!!!Heroes; CSt; EEEnjoy X factor - great TV but such ongoing poor support for previous finalists...

Books:

Coral Island: a childhood favourite which still remains... Castaway, Robinson Crusoe, Lord of the Flies... Desert and other islands still fire my imagination...More contemporary authors- Paul Auster, Robert Godard

Heroes:

Kylie, Olivia and Anastacia - all for their brave fight back to health after breast-cancer.Musical heroes - Petula Clark, Paul Simon, Carly Simon... and the late great Queen Nina [Simone]and finally, Marianne Faithfull [the great survivor!] Her 1960s folk-album "North Country Maid" was the first lp I ever bought. {For completeness, "Concrete and Clay" by Unit 4 + 2, was the first single...}
