Peace world, this is Mercury the Maroon broadcasting live and direct.
I am a Free Man, the Field Negro who was smart enough to break the shackles and escape. Except my heart belongs to my music.
I make Escape music, real freedom tunes. No, I'm not shouting with my balled up fist in the air. Well, not always. Sometimes I'm cursing out the boss, and walking right out the fucking door, with my check. Sometimes I'm talking about the President, other times I'm talking about my dick(oh yes, there's a difference). I love and fight for my people, but sometimes, I couldn't give a fuck about anybody. I can keep it Real, and I can keep it Riuniti. Either way, I'm Hip Hop through and through.
My crew is The Dugout, and my crew is untouchable. A totally self-contained, self-taught unit of emcees, producers, engineers, filmmakers, journalists, and graphic artists. We think that we're better than most, and we're pretty smart guys. We run our own studio in Brooklyn, NY, aptly titled The Dugout, which has become a hub for burgeoning underground talent throughout the city.
I have performed with The Dugout extensively throughout New York City, at reknowned venues such as Mercury Lounge, SouthPaw, The Bowery Poetry Club, CBGB, and The Tank. The Dugout has opened for many top-tier artists at numerous Universities, such as Common, Wyclef, Nas, Parliament Funkadelic, Boot Camp Click, and Dead Prez.
My solo debut, HIGHER LEARNING, continues to receive critical acclaim from the press and public, and is becoming increasingly more present on global Internet radio. Check for the lead singles DRAFT DAY and SATURDAY. HIGHER LEARNING is available on Itunes, CDbaby, Napster, Rhapsody, and www.thedugoutmusic.com.
I recently released the NATURAL BLACK MIXTAPE, which is a brilliant compilation of music from the various artists I work with, from QueenGodis to Nuclear Family. With equal representation from male and female artists, it is truly a delightful listen from start to finish.
OTHER NOTEWORTHY PRODUCTION CREDITS
QueenGodis--Power U (5 tracks)
Shaka King/StarPower--CLOCKWORK, winner of the H2O Hip Hop Film Festival Award
Shaka King--Stolen Moments (score, soundtrack)
GOLDEN GLOVES--a documentary on female boxing (score, soundtrack)
Brett Johnson former editor of Vibe and the Source writes:
"Its refreshing to see the Dugout collective produce films and music that offer a progressive vision of what quality Hip-Hop can sound and look like."
Andrew Ricketts BLOW! Magazine contributor writes:
"The Dugout is the first group to give me faith in the resurrection of New
York rap. I think people will believe it when they see it."
Black Beat Magazine The Hot Spot:
"The Dugout has been pitching their brand of hip-hop up and down the east coast. Releasing both self-produced mix-tapes and original recordings created in the sanctity of their own home studio, this crew melds together street savvy intelligence with a hint of thug-braggadocio for a sound that could easily have been spawned from Brooklyn's heyday of the mid to late '90s."
BBoy Grunt of THAT OL' NEW YORK RAP writes:
"It's beautiful poetry. And it's not the type of poetry that makes you "hush, hush", sit up straight, and not cough. It's the type of poetry that makes you wanna punch a cop in the face or travel to a foreign country and fall in love without the use of the English language."
