Playing with my kid, playing the fool, playing with myself.... Playing around. Playing music of course. Playing photo mulle model with my pal heidi on our face the day with heidi and sarah blogsite. Being good-busy and being a busy-body.
Big Foot, Nessie, Samson from Carnivale, Adama Sr. from the new Battlestar Galactica, Stringer Bell, Bunk and Bubbs from The Wire, Larry David, Borat and Melissa Sue Anderson in her Happy Birthday To Me role-- all at the perfect tea-party!And Charles Ingalls so he could be my daddy for like a month and teach me really important things...Devendra Banhart to ravish him!The singer of Editors and Nick Cave to sing away my insomnia...
My former band Greyn, http://www.myspace.com/greyninbelgium , my favorite bands: Zita Swoon (although the last album and recent cover song on the radio kind of have me off them for the moment I'm sad to say),Ani Difranco... There are so many bands I enjoy from classic Led Zep to current pop-crap on the radio that's nice to sing along with. There's Violent Femmes, Radiohead, PJ Harvey, Nick Cave, Editors, Jeff Buckley, Wilco, Tindersticks, The Pixies, Bright Eyes, Portishead, Pink Floyd, Sigur Ros, Frank Zappa, was a huge Living Colour fan and followed them around - all sorts of stuff depending on mood and where I'm at. Music I heard in Belgium when I first moved here and was depressed was half the reason I stayed here I think. Lots of great stuff made in Belgium. Lots of great local bands in Kortrijk. Talent abounds in this country and this region. It's inspiring to say the least.
I like dark movies mostly: Magnolia, Taxi Driver, Carrie, Memento, Run Lola Run, The Cement Garden, The Piano,... Mike Leigh (Naked, Career Girls) Vincent Gallo (Buffalo 66), Lars Von Trier (Dogville, Breaking the Waves). Indie ones (Once Were Warriors), old ones (One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, The Shining, Arsenic and Old Lace, The Warriors). And easy simple comedy (Fast Times at Ridgemont High, The Jerk, The Wedding Singer, Airplane) as well as girly movies, by which I don't mean porn -- more like Something About Mary stuff and Terms of Endearment...
The Wire, The Wire, The Wire and The Wire again - best show ever!!!! and Curb Your Enthusiasm, Six Feet Under, Carnivale, Battlestar Galactica, Big Train, Little Britain, Freaks and Geeks, The Office, Lost, In De Gloria, Het Eiland, Eastenders, Ali G, The Wonder Years, Degrassi High, bad afterschool specials, good documentaries (on the BBC mostly) and tear-jerking life and home improvement shows (On Vitaya and V I'm ashamed to admit)... and let's not forget Oprah and Dr. Phil and Trinny and Susanah as well as pathology and forensic shows about murder and terror...
Augusten Burroughs books, Flannery O'conner books, mixed poetry books, Maya Angelou books, so many others... also lots and lots of magazines to the point of addiction - such as Oprah, People, Mojo, Uncut, Humo, Q, Smithsonian, Vanity Fair, Focus Knack, US, Glamour,...
The writers and actors of the show The Wire because they have such a real story to tell and they tell it like it is and confuse the hell out you making you question what makes a person noble and what makes a person a scumbag... Larry David of Curb Your Enthusiasm because he too tells it like it is and makes you piss in your pants in laughter or squirm in discomfort, Stef Kamil Carlens of Zita Swoon because he is one organic-music-maker and knows how to capture an audience with authenticity, Ani Difranco because she can write, sing, play guitar, be political, laugh while avoiding working for the man, and anyone who does what they do oh so well, from the heart, without being mean, without the ugly side of ego and with great vigor and honesty... And I can't forget Bunk from The Wire because he's a humble mother-fucker with a big-ass dick (as said by himself!)
