About Me

Many of you know me as Walt Jones.
I'm a fine art photographer based in Los Angeles, California. My photographic works celebrate juxtaposition - the balance and conflict inherent in the combination of old and new, oblique and flat, color and monochrome, nature and humanity...
Inspiration lies in the discovery of the moment - I look for the compositional relationships that naturally occur rather than give myself up to preconceived vision. The light reflected from these moments and focused through my lens is forever recorded in chemical emulsion - frozen in time.
Art should be tangible, something that makes you reach out, touch and feel the energy of the moment at which the shutter opened. It is something that evokes an emotional response from the viewer and makes them part of the process.

In my spare time, I also create visual effects for feature films. You can see my work in Happy Feet, Superman Returns, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Elektra, Flight of the Phoenix and The Chronicles of Riddick among others.

My Interests

Creating engaging imagery.

When I'm not doing the above... hiking, mountain biking, sport climbing, scuba diving, white water kayaking.

I'd like to meet:

Anyone who's passionate about life and creativity.

Movies:

A truly eclectic mix of Sam Fuller, Fassbinder, Murnau, Terrence Malick, Clint Eastwood, Paul Haggis and Peter Jackson along with solid portions of indie film and mainstream fluff.

Random Utah Shots

I was out in Salt Lake City, Utah a few weeks ago.  Although the primary purpose of the trip was in no way related to photography, I did drag my camera along and did a bit of shooting here and th...

wild sea otters!

As I mentioned in my post last week on the elephant seals, the insanity of my foray into what I'm considering to be "true" wildlife photography was pretty wet and miserable. But... the sea otters I h...
