The Volga Boatmen
Born in Manchester, The Boatmen are happy to play in St Helen’s notorious Heath Estate or Deepest Blackpool, but would prefer to be found sunning themselves at the Fuji Rock Festival or sampling the myriad base hedonistic delights of the Sunset Strip of a summer’s balmy evening.
"Vocals are angry, loud and borderline intimidating, the frontman seems to be having a fight with the air such is the intensity of his performance – and the rest of the band are not far behind." - ManchesterMusic.co.uk "Madness comes in many forms, and the Volga Boatmen have a particular musical strand, beloved of The Coral’s debut album and the more ramshackle moments of The Doors. For evidence, try this from May McLoed – ‘Daddy said girl, you’re better off dead/now daddy’s in the back under the flowerbed…’ It’s the kind of insanity that can become greatness. File them under ones to watch and find them in a local bar or sanatorium." - Chris Long (BBC)
