I'd like to meet:

..

MilkBoy is an all-ages venue. We're open early for coffee junkies and will stay open late for shows and creative arts events. Our mission is to be a creative-community meeting place where people?s minds and bellies can be filled.

MilkBoy is most heavily rooted in music... MilkBoy began 12 years ago as MilkBoy Recording (which is still a thriving recording studio located only a block away from the coffee shop).

MilkBoy Coffee is the venue where we hope to give many local and national acts a stage to showcase their art to an appreciative audience. We have begun stocking and selling the CDs and merchandise of local musicians, but music is not our only interest.

MilkBoy Acoustic Cafe: 824 W. Lancaster Av. Bryn Mawr Thursday June 26, 2008 IMPROVIVER! (8:00pm) Improviver! is an incredible format that showcases individual improvisers in a great, fun, every-man-for-himself way. Each improviver gets a number on them (like a marathon runner) and a corresponding ticket in a bag. The director will randomly draw numbers and those improvisers will do a scene based on an audience suggestion. At the end of the scene, the audience will score the scene between 1 and 5 (1 being lowest and 5 being highest). They will then cross to the opposite side of the stage and the director will draw more numbers for the next scene. When all improvisers have gone to the other side, the improvisers with the lowest score will be eliminated. Believe me, however, anyone can win and anyone can lose. Rarely will you actually be judged on your performance or talent, most of the time, it is simply luck of the draw (or, audience,). After the elimination (with charm, of course!), there is a second round and so on until there can be only one Ultimate Improviver! In the end, we will crown the Ultimate Improviver and invite everyone back next time to see if they can hold on to their title.

Friday June 27, 2008 DAKOTA JAY w/TOM CURTIS JR. (7:30pm)In 2001, Dakota Jay first picked up his father's guitar learning as many songs as possible. Deeply engrossed in Bob Dylan, Dave Matthews, John Mayer, Richie Havens, The Counting Crows as well as others, Dakota began to write songs without rest. As Dakota Jay first started playing small local shows in the Doylestown area, heartache and politics found their way into his music with troublesome relationships and the beginning of the Iraq War in 2003. Suffering two very hard breakups and seeing the death count of Americans and Iraqis rising in the Middle East contributed greatly to Dakota Jay's music. In 2006, Dakota Jay began working with producer David Ivory and has recently finished a two song EP with plans to record more in the near future.

Saturday June 28, 2008 ALEX LONGO w/CHRIS THOMAS, BOB CARLTON AND JACK MURRAY (7:30pm) Bob Carlton has been writing and performing songs and poetry since the age of 12. For the last seven years he lived in Minneapolis, MN where he performed solo and as a member of the experimental pop group “Your Loving Tiger” and opened for such notable acts as Kimya Dawson, Calvin Johnson, World Inferno Friendship Society, Devotchka, Tapes n' Tapes, Thunder in the Valley, and the Knotwells. Your Loving Tiger can be found on MySpace. Their first two albums “Should We Look At Each Other and Cry” and “Beat” are both available from Peddling Records-also on Myspace. Their third album “What Gives?” is available through their MySpace page as is the live compilation “In Heat”. Bob Carlton’s solo music reflects a love of surrealist imagery, Freudian psychoanalysis, dada, cruel theater, and the folk tradition.

MilkBoy Main Stage: 2 East Lancaster Av. Ardmore Friday June 27, 2008 $8 - LAKE STREET DIVE w/CUDDLE MAGIC AND REBECCA HART *BYOB SHOW* (8:00pm)Using their jazz backgrounds, Lake Street Dive combines improv and indie-rock in their original tunes and exuberant live shows. The Boston-based band recently completed their debut album "in this episode..." featuring "Sometimes When I'm Drunk and You're Wearing My Favorite Shirt," Grand Prize winner in the 2005 John Lennon Songwriting Contest. When not performing, Lake Street Dive enjoys badminton and snackfoodery.

Cuddle Magic is an often quite large band from Jamaica Plain, MA. We sing and play many instruments as often as possible. Click the image to the right to listen.

Rebecca Hart - small girl, big voice, fast guitar - is a musician and actor based in NYC. She made her first stage appearance at nine months old and hasn't looked back. She is a graduate of Brown University's Theatre department and a survivor of the Los Angeles independent music scene. RH tours frequently with her current band between acting jobs, most frequently on the East Coast and in Ireland. RH Live features members of the NY-area 'jam band' Licorice, and it sounds pretty damn cool.

Saturday June 28, 2008 $8 - SELKOW w/THE COURAGE PILLS (8:00pm)Selkow consists of: Ben Selkow, Mike Golisano, Matt Foster and Jerome Whitson. Selkow writes and performs an original style of Acoustic Rock infused with Hip Hop. Through emotionally driven lyrics, Selkow peels back the layers of modern culture and stereotype to reveal and address a variety of issues that affect us in our lives. Selkow is committed to original music. We strive for a level of professionalism that propels us on our mission to bring audiences and musicians together through a live music experience. We are dedicated to developing a personal connection with our fans and continue to thank everyone for their support along the way.

The Courage Pills play rock and roll music; It’s rock and roll in the sense that the songs are fresh and original, loud and raucous, yet still utilize the tones and hooks that people have loved in music for years. Their lyrics and delivery are suggestive of an overactive social consciousness coupled with poetic helplessness. With punk rock undertones and classical finesse, the Courage Pills successfully mix and match a strange and unique span of musical styles.
