I, the perfect cyn, am a music freak, perfectionist, & lover of slutty, dirty, twitchy dance music. I also have an inherent love of a lot of music that came out in the late 80's and all of the 90's, industrial, hXc, post-punk, shoegaze, emo, riot-grrrl, and more. My most recent obsession has mostly been about dance music. As a dj i've been instigating trouble on dancefloors and in clubs since 2001. With a reputation for bringing uncompromisingly cutting edge music to the people, my Spandecks Syndicate partner Derek Fisher and I have avoided being pigeonholed into any one genre, dubbing our own style of "sexy robot music." This mission has seen us bring and/or play with us in PDX & Seattle- Richie Hawtin, Ellen Allien, Matthew Dear, T. Raumschmiere, Damian Lazarus, Claude Vonstroke, Ryan Crosson, Pheek, Someone Else, Bryan Zentz, Lowfish, Smash TV, My Robot Friend, Matt Tolfrey, and Alex Smoke as well as a slew of regional superstars all over the Pacific Northwest.
Over the past 5 years the Spandecks experience has evolved significantly from where it began. We graduated from crashing house parties to hosting small club events in 2002 at the Portlands unlikely M bar. Right across the street at Bastas Trattoria, Spandecks hosted one of Portlands longest running Thursday night weeklies for over two years. We've been resident DJs for three years at Saucebox, a Portland institution. Picking up where Seattle's Robo.Trash left off in '03, we helped continue the energy by helping create a Seattle electroclash bi-monthly, Shameless. We've hosted regular club nights at Holocene since 04, most recently with Matthew Dear as Audion April of 06. In July 05, we and Kill Jill embarked on Phonique - a Spandecks Syndicate venture at the intimate Noir Lounge the second Friday each month with guests Matt Tolfrey, Freaky Chakra, Lowfish, Kris Moon, Jerry Abstract, Bryan Zentz, Someone Else, Pheek, Cascadian Knights, and the Famous Players. And due to our rediculously infectious enthusiasm about music, Spandecks events continually gain momentum to present day, in our on & off again weekly internet radio program Robot Revolutions on Sobroken.com, and summer outdoor events with our pals Bassland Collective. 2006 Highlights included bringing Matt Tolfrey (www.leftroom.com) to perform for the Phonique 1year party in July, plus our Chicago debut @ Smart Bar the same month, as well extended DJ set in the Decibel Festival 2006 DB lounge. What have we been up to in 2007? Not nearly as much, for a much needed temporary break. The music never leaves us though - We are still around, kickin' it like we always have ... 1st Thursdays at Pala w/new art every month. First fridays we host Pump Up the JAMZ! ar Pi-rem. Third Saturdays are still our long long running Lovely @ Saucebox. Please check out our website, www.sexyrobotmusic.com, hosting several mixes including cyn's "Loslung, Histrung" as well as "gammaKon" and "makeAsound" all available on the music page. The website will always have our upcoming events in detail. Wake up & smell the party, people - Spandecks will always have your dancin' ass covered!
i like the noises between the silences. i like tracks that don't suck. usually that means wierd unexpected sounds... hidden voices. and BASS. tracks that sneak up or hypnotize me. i get bored with one style so i range from the small, warm & twitchy to the big, wet & raunchy. not really describing music by genres anymore but you can usually find me happily residing in the techno-with-electro-influences camp. see my blogs for charts & specific influences. i also have a deep love of most the post-punk/hardcore/emo/industrial stuff of the late 80's and the 90's.
