"The birth of a band with superstar attitude." (Ken Jebsen)
Last Call For Disco are... different. Robotic beats, a flying V guitar and keyboards that light up the stage. Songs that ride a wave of energy fronted with powerfully unique vocals. Ironic references to pop culture and the metaphorically bizarre. It’s show that leaves you lost in space. But let's start at the beginning...
It was a late summer’s day in August 2005. Far overhead a gigantic celestial mirror ball glittered over Berlin as singer Jake Bishop met guitarist Mathias Thien for the first time. By combining their musical heritages of Brighton and Berlin, it was a remarkable collision of sounds, ideas and above all language. It took them only ten days to create their unique style and enough material to lay down a half-hour set in Berlin cult club “Magnetâ€. Not long afterwards the style became even more distinct when Philipp Lange completed the line-up bringing synths, sounds and samples. Last Call For Disco became electric and the celestial ball began to spin.
Last Call For Disco have generated ever increasing recognition with live shows that will ask you to dance, and songs that will still be there in the morning: a formula that has seen them play notorious venues and support acts such as the Dirty Pretty Things, The Magic Numbers and The Automatic. With influences from the likes of Bowie, Depeche Mode and Daft Punk and an unusual approach to song writing, the band remains refreshingly new and individual, taking their seats between indie and electro, between glamour and punk, between retro and future.
