You may know her as the irresistible "best man" Andy in the hilarious comedy Date Movie or as the cheeky secretary Stacy in Adam Sandler's box office hit Click, but to most people she is Sophie Monk, one of Australia's most exciting and successful performers. In six years, this talented Queensland bombshell has gone from being a Marilyn Monroe impersonator at Warner Brothers Movie World to a chart-topping singer with a successful Hollywood acting career on the horizon. Sophie became an overnight success in her homeland when she auditioned for the first series of Popstars, a TV talent show which promised to turn dreams into reality for five lucky girls. Impressed by her good looks, cheerful nature and gorgeous singing voice, Sophie was selected by judges to become one-fifth of Australia's highest-selling girl group, Bardot. For two and a half years, Bardot conquered the Australian pop music scene with a string of hit singles, including the number one “Poison†and top five hits “ASAP†and “I Need Somebodyâ€, from two successful albums - the number one self-titled debut and 2001’s Play It Like That. After touring Australia twice, as well as playing to audiences in the UK, New Zealand, Malaysia, Taiwan, Singapore and India, the group decided to “call it a day†in April 2002. Keen to continue as a solo artist, Sophie quickly jumped back into the studio, recording tracks with big name producers such as Rob Davis (who co-wrote Kylie Minogue's “Cant Get You Out Of My Headâ€). This resulted in “Inside Outsideâ€, Sophie's cute and bubbly debut single which became an Australian top five smash. At the same time, Sophie took up her first professional modelling stint as the face of Expozay swimwear. The party-pumping track, “Get The Music Onâ€, ensured her another top ten smash and was backed by her hilarious appearance in advertisements for Diet Vanilla Coke. May 2003 saw the release of Sophie’s debut solo album, Calendar Girl, which proved her to be more than just a one-trick pony, mixing contemporary pop with classical opera interludes, Sophie having been classically trained growing up. The album was capped off by the final single, the beautiful ballad “One Breath Away†and in 2004, Sophie parted ways with her record company to pursue a successful acting career. She has since established herself in Hollywood, having already played Marilyn Monroe for a high-budget telemovie The Mystery Of Natalie Wood (2004) and has also starred in the music video 'Always' for Blink 182. In February 2006, she starred in her debut feature role as the sex-bomb Andy in the hilarious comedy Date Movie which reached no.2 in the US and no.1 in the Australian, UK and New Zealand box office charts. June saw the release of Click, a story about a universal remote control, in which Sophie starred alongside Adam Sandler as the not-so-innocent secretary Stacy. In 2007, Sophie became the face for Bio Fit's push-up bra campaign which included recording a cover and filming a video for the Salt'N'Peppa classic "Push It", a saucy shoot for PETA's vegetarian campaign and a guest spot in the hit series Entourage. She has two new upcoming movies, Sex and Death 101 and Spring Breakdown, both due for release in 2008 as well as long-awaited new music on the way.
The future is looking bright for this young, aussie girl who has captured the hearts of millions around the world!
