Pull me under, I'm not afraid...

About Me

Fashions? Trends? Following the crowd? A Jedi craves not these things...
If there's a different or roundabout way of doing something, I'm probably going to go out of my way to do it. It depresses me to see so many people happily, perhaps even willfully adhering to stereotypes and adopting interests simply because everyone else is.
Investing myself totally into things until I get bored with them...I guess that sums me up. I am deeply passionate about those things that interest me, possibly (defintely) bordering on obsession at times. But hey, there's no point doing things by halves, is there? Life's too short, as I am finding out the hard way... One thing that really winds me up is the faux apathy towards interests and life in general when quizzed on such subjects. It's cool to 'not give a shit', and be 'kind of into' stuff. Sure I'm a geek, a nerd...but that's only because showing a degree of passion and enthusiasm towards something, not necessarily popular or fashionable, attracts that label. I will happily continue to foam at the mouth with exctiment over some obscure Japanese horror film or rant on till the early hours about how amazing the last Dream Theater album was. I believe life is to be enjoyed and I try to enjoy it in my own way.
If you like something, then enjoy it. Show passion towards all things that are important: family, partners, friends, films, music...whatever it is that matters.

My Interests

Music, music and more music. I love listening to it, though prefer playing it. I'm in a couple of bands. I kind of think that makes me cool. I play the bass. Which I kind of think makes me cooler...

I love movies. All sorts. It's a fantastic sort of escapism that allows you to be taken far, far away for a couple of hours and one that I indulge more than is probably healthy.

Big NBA fan at the moment. Go Knicks!!!!!!!!
Hmmm... a rather shoddy season yet again. I hate to say it, but firing Isiah and buying out Marbury, could be the only way forward. I hope to be proven wrong...

Others: Reading (occasionally), watching wrestling (with decreasing frequency), excessive sarcasm, wasting time on silly internet fads (more than I really should be), learning (and maybe turning, I really think so) Japanese, eating out, bitching about stuff over a strong coffee, being pretentious when it comes to food, jabbering on about how great Dream Theater are (constantly), pontificating, reading comics - particularly G.I.Joe, trying to surprise people by not conforming to a sterotype, being rude to or just plain ignoring people who try to sell me stuff, trying to look cool by breaking into Spanish whenever I meet a fellow Spanish speaker, getting aroused by Mike Portnoy's drumming and Pino Palladino's bass playing.

I also regularly enjoy being half Argentinian...

And recently, I've realised that I kind of like travelling. And I've recently realised my dreams of travelling to Japan!

I'd like to meet:

Friends, acquaintances...the love of my life? Most importantly, passionate people. I often find it really hard to relate to a lot of people that I meet, simply because they don't seem to be interested in anything. Maybe it's me that's the boring one and if that's the case, then I want to meet other boring people. Seriously though, self-awareness is important, but if you are passionate and enthusiastic, please get in touch...

If you look like this, you are probably my dream woman, so please contact me post haste: -

Music:

It really is better than sex, isn't it? Well, maybe not. But I love it.

I currently play in the bands To-Mera , Demagogue and Lost Legion . They are all awesome, so go check them out!

Favourite bands to listen to at the moment: -

Dream Theater, King Diamond (that's 'THE KING' to you!), Manowar, Faith No More, Blind Guardian, Rush and (surprisingly) Nightwish

Right now on my MP3 player, there is, in addition to the above: -

A-Ha, Alice in Chains, Anthrax, Anastacia, Annihilator, At the Gates, Autopsy, Billy Idol, Black Sabbath, Bolt Thrower, Bonnie Tyler, Bruce Dickinson, Cannibal Corpse, Carcass, Celtic Frost, Cheap Trick, Chic, Children of Bodom, Christina Aguilera, Cryptopsy, Cynic, Dimmu Borgir, Duran Duran, DVDA, Enslaved, Entombed, Erasure, Exodus, Fates Warning, Fifth Season, Firehouse, Guns and Roses, Gwen Stefani, Heart, Helloween, Infectious Grooves, Iron Maiden, James Brown, Judas Priest, Kelly Clarkson, Kim Wilde, Kiss, Kodomo Band, Level 42, Liquid Tension Experiment, Lita Ford, Madness, Madonna, MC Lars, Megadeth, Michael Jackson, Michael Schenker Group, Morbid Angel, Mother Love Bone, Mr Big, Mull Muzzler, N.W.A, Naglfar, Naplam Death, Necrophagia, New Order, Nuclear Assault, Obituary, Overkill, Ozzy Osbourne, Pantera, Paul Simon, Paul Young, Pink, Pink Floyd, Poison, Primus, Queensryche, Rage Against The Machine, Rainbow, Red Hot Chili Peppers, REM, Rhapsody, Savatage, Shakira, Shania Twain, Skyfire, Slayer, Steve Vai, Stevie Wonder, Suicidal Tendencies, To-Mera, Tori Amos, T'Pau, The Ramones, Van Halen, Vanilla Ninja, Venom, Virgin Steele, Vixen, WASP, Warrior Soul, Whitesnake.

That's all I've got round to putting on my MP3 player so far - not the exhaustive list, by any means. A mix of pop and metal - with one thing in common: they all rule!

Movies:

I love so many, particularly dumb, sophomoric US comedies and shit scary asian chillers. If a film makes me cry out of either laughter, sheer terror or acts of chokingly heroic bravery, then it's a good 'un, in my book.
Directors: Kevin Smith, David Lynch, George Romero, Lucio Fulci, Nakata Hideo, Takeshi Kitano, Darren Aronofsky, Sam Raimi, Peter Jackson and many others
Actors/Actresses: Jason Lee, Bruce Campbell, Kyle MacLachlan, Alicia Silverstone, Zhang Ziyi, Beat Takeshi, Steve Carrell, Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughan, Kirsten Dunst, Kate Hudson, Samuel L Jackson, Donald Sutherland...the list goes on
A random list of films I like : Ring (the Japanese one), Ju-On: The Curse/The Grudge series, Requiem for a Dream, Sin-City, 2046, When the Last Sword is Drawn, Bombon El Perro, White Chicks, The 40 Year Old Virgin, King Kong, Spiderman, Evil Dead Trilogy, Romero's Dead series, Platoon, Star Wars, Clueless, Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Dodgeball, The Shawshank Redemption, Battle Royale, The Eye, Todo Sobre Mi Madre, Ong Bak...I could be here all day.
Get in touch if you love movies and want to chat about them.

Television:

Two Words: Twin Peaks. Nuff said...

Books:

As sad as I am to admit it, I'm not much of a literary man. I enjoy trashy Stephen King page turners as much as anything. Recently been reading IT, for the second time. Love it.

I'm also partial to a bit of David Gemmell. I got to meet him and he is quite literally the King Beyond the Gate. And his books rule. Few other authors have been able to get me sobbing like a little girl...

And of course the classics J.R.R Tolkein, M.R James, Edgar Allan Poe etc...

Heroes:

Cheesy as it may sound, people like Martin Luther King and Gandhi, I have always considered as inspiring. Their refusal to bow to adversity and maintain their ideology is humbling.

In the arena of music, I guess my 'heroes' are those who have influenced my bass playing: Billy Sheehan, Flea, Geddy Lee, Bill Gould and, everyone keeps telling me, Steve Harris.

As for heroes/heroines of fiction...
Jay and Silent Bob, Indiana Jones, Storm Shadow, Optimus Prime, Lady Death, Special Agent Dale Cooper, Druss the Legend...

And all of Dream Theater, for being so utterly and unquestionably amazing at everything they do. Particularly Mike Portnoy, arguably the coolest man ever.
