Heres the blurb:
Ben Campbell grew up in a household of film lovers. From a young age he was exposed to cinema and was one of the first kids in the street who’s dad owned a laserdisc player and widescreen TV. It’s only natural that Ben would want to make films and entered the Film & television industry aged seventeen working as a runner for commercials production company HRA in Soho, London.
During his time making Tea, working on set and delivering U-matic tapes Ben made his first short film “Abductionâ€. It took two years to make, starred family and friends and was shot on Hi8 video. Ben edited the film on an Avid Media Composer in his spare time and put his heart and soul into finishing it. The short won first prize in sci-fi film festival The Festival Of Fantastic Films 1999 for best amateur short film and got Ben promoted to Assistant Editor.
Ben then began a television career editing commercials, including spots for Frosties “Tony the Tigerâ€, and cut the animated series Stressed Eric for Absolutely Productions before quitting the industry to become a barman. After six months pulling pints (and two appendix operations) Ben decided he missed the film industry and worked briefly on the magazine show Eurotrash for Rapido TV as facilities co-ordinator. Ben then continued his career and as a freelance editor cutting children’s shows Tractor Tom and Peppa Pig, the latter won the Best Children’s pre-school series Bafta in 2005. Ben went on to edit the biblical TV series Friends and Heroes for Star Wars producer Gary Kurtz. In the same year Ben also cut the short animated film Hairy Driving which won Best Animated short film at the Welsh Bafta’s in 2004.
Ben most recently finished work cutting Charlie and Lola Series three for Tiger Aspect Productions. The show won the Best Children’s pre-school series Bafta 2007.
As Director, Writer and Producer Ben has shot several short films, music videos and documentaries which have played at festivals and short film nights all over the world. Urban Fairytale was part of The Commonwealth film festival and End of the Pier film festival 2005. His short kung-fu film The Audition recently came second place in an Audience Award at a short film night held by Raindance and Blowback Magazine.
Ben directed and edited a music promo dvd for funk band Dark Chunk. The dvd featured a 25 minute Documentary on the band playing Glastonbury and included a 45 minute live set.
Ben has recently finished work directing and producing the music video “Superstar†for rock band Kyshera. The cd single will be released in the new year and includes the music video as a bonus feature. The video is currently playing on music channels across the country including MTV Flux.
During and in-between all of the above Ben also found time to edit many short films for independent filmmakers and this is still something he loves to do to this day.
When it comes to working on a production Ben combines his storytelling experience as a broadcast editor with his independent filmmaking experience as a writer and director to create visually engaging work. He strives to bring something new and fresh to every production.
