I'm really tired of getting soaking wet now. Where the feck is the sunshine?!!?!

About Me

Hey there :)

I'm a copywriter and poet based in Leeds, though I'm from London originally. I am still trying to learn proper Yorkshire speak.

Please check out my copywriting website here Provectus Stilus

Or my personalised poetry service/gift range here Poetry Perfection

So a bit about me, yeah? Ok, here's some random stuff as it occurs to me; I love music, it's food for my soul and even when physically stationary, I'm always dancing inside. I like to laugh, preferably with other people, otherwise you tend to look like a bit of a knob breaking into spontaneous bouts of unsolicited laughter when walking around on your own. I'm a friendly, open, honest, upfront kinda chick, pretty earthy and not all that girlie (though I do have my moments). My family and friends mean the world to me, so I'm at my happiest when I'm gathering my tribe for a party, or meeting up with friends for beers, or cooking for them at home. I can get on my soapbox at times, but that's cos I'm a passionate kinda chick and some things are worth fighting for.

I'm pretty environmentally conscious and get vexed when people don't recycle or think about the impact they have on the world. I would rather hear people showing gratitude for the things they have got rather than moaning about the things they haven't. I don't like materialism or people who waste resources - go spend some time in a developing country where people have got next to bugger all but still smile through their days and seldom complain: wake yourselves up and learn some humility

I like good conversation and love being around creative and intelligent people. I also like people who are open-minded and upfront. I love hanging out with my 10 year old boy, who is an absolute superstar and gifted with an amazing spirit, sense of humour, hyper-intelligent brain and a healthy sprinkling of cheekiness: but I also value the times when I'm not 'mum' and get to go out and behave like a kid myself :)

Travelling rocks - I lived in Tanzania for a year which was fabulous and I can still often be heard chatting merrily away in Swahili despite the fact that no-one has a clue what I'm saying. I am in the throes of a particularly passionate love affair with Barcelona & quite fancy living there one day - Gaudi's architecture is awesome. Either that or I'll go build a house in a baobab tree in east Africa. If I stay rooted to the UK, then I will most likely end up with a little small holding, growing my own veg, rearing chickens and petting my lawnmower (which will be a goat). Think Felicity Kendall in 'The Good Life'!

I'm a spiritual person, but that does not mean I spend my life saying 'om', sitting in a lotus position, conversing with divine entities or speaking in tongues. I do, however, believe in the power of positive affirmations, meditation, breathing (kind of essential - not many people do it, not properly), the concept of the universal dinner lady, feeding our bodies with proper healthy food, natural healing and constantly developing our mind/body/spirit balance. Like, maaaaaaan :P

I also have an addiction to blueberries

My Interests

Major passions include; music, dancing (round my kitchen, in a club, on a table, at the bus stop - I don't discrimate), reading, writing, drawing, cooking, laughing, travelling, hanging out with my friends and family, good conversation and singing (badly).

I also love camping, building fires and cooking on them (you can't beat the great outdoors), walking, the sea, mountains, throwing the occasional party, giving indian head massages and playing the djembe (badly).

Out of all of the above, my friends and family are without a doubt the most important things.

I'd like to meet:

I generally REALLY like people. If we have something in common, or if you love music, are pretty cool, can hold a conversation and are friendly, honest and entertaining, I will more than likely be happy to know you.

I do not, however, want to hear from men who are hoping; that I will give them cheap web-cam frills, that I wish to discuss my sexual likes and dislikes, those looking for an English wife or someone to rip off with an unbelievable sob-story. Just because I'm a caring person, doesn't mean I'm stupid!

Many of my myspace friends are real friends, in the real world, the one where people are living, breathing, flesh and blood. I love meeting new people and making pals, but please dont add me if you are a myspace friends collector. Really, having 4738 'friends' is just silly.

Music:

I love reggae, jazz, blues, indie, folk/rock, latin, world, nu-soul, funk, dub and hip-hop. I occasionally indulge in a bit of punk, 70's cheese and classical. I'm also finding, quite to my surprise and slight horror, that I am developing a love of RnB - but purely because it's great for getting down and sexy and shaking your ass to.

Some bands/artists that I like;

Bedouin Soundclash, The Abyssinians, Massive Attack, Luciano, Natalie Merchant, Chillum Woods, Toots and The Maytals, Max Romeo, Culture, Floyd, Bob Dylan, Morodo, John Mayer, James, The Levellers, On-U Sound System, The Doors, Skunk Anansie, Senser, Taj Mahal, Joni Mitchell, Billie Holiday, Lee 'Scratch' Perry, Buena Vista Social Club, Neil Young, Leonard Cohen, Beth Orton, The Kinks, The Specials, The Stone Roses, Jurassic 5, Snow Patrol, Nitin Sawhney, Rae & Christian, Stevie Wonder, Daara J, John Martyn, The Beatles, Baaba Maal, The Streets, The Roots, Ravi Shankar, Missy Higgins, India Irie, Janis Joplin, Scissor Sisters, Afro Celt Sound System, Bob Marley, Tribe Called Quest, Afro Cuban All Stars, Karen Ramirez, Lauren Hill, Junior Kelly, John Mayer, Ozomatli, The Specials, Cypress Hill, Tracy Chapman, Gomez, Morgan Heritage, Culture, Beck, Jose Gonzalez, New Fast Automatic Daffodils, Pete Tosh, Morcheeba, Youssou N'Dour, Jill Scott, Terri Walker, Billie Holiday, Primal Scream, Jah Wobble, Amy Winehouse, Manu Chao, Jimmy Cliff, The Tansads, Ken Boothe, Mano Negro, The Clash, Roni Size, Damien Marley, Stephen Marley, Kirsty MacColl, Nas, Aretha Franklin, Fela Kuti, Paulo Nutini, Orchestra Baobab, Tiken Jah Fakoly, Asian Dub Foundation, NWA, Bright Eyes, Jack Johnson, Erykah Badu, Dr Dre, Angie Stone, Donovan Frankenreiter, De La Soul, Dub Syndicate, Ben Lee, The Pharcyde, Ray Lamontagne, D'Angelo, Seth Lakeman, The Cure, Ani Di Franco, Hugh Mundell, Karma, Cat Power, Freshly Ground, Freestylers, Ismael Lo, Ben Harper, Spearhead

Movies:

All things Monty Python, Leon, Withnail and I, Kapax, Seven, Shawshank Redemption, Very Bad Things, True Romance, Clockwork Orange, Heathers, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Shaun of the Dead, The Gods Must Be Crazy, Taxi Driver, LOTR, Fight Club, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (though the book is better), Ferris Buellers Day Off, The Harder They Come, 50 First Dates, The Whole 9 Yards, Adaptation, 12 Monkeys, Being John Malkovich, Hot Fuzz, Hotel Rwanda, Ice Age, Goodfellas, Pirates of the Carribean, Donnie Darko.

Television:

Just given a TV a home in my living room for the first time in about a decade. It has a nice little cabinet to reside in, and the doors stay firmly closed for the most part. Gamma rays and most of the stuff we are exposed to on TV = shite. I do, however, watch the occasional documentary, amusing quiz show (QI, Buzzcocks, Mock the Week, Have I got News...) or The Simpsons. I also have a bit of a 'Lost' addiction.

Books:

Some favourite authors include; Bill Bryson, Paul Theroux, Lyall Watson, Carlos Castenada, Roddy Doyle, J.D. Sallinger, Barefoot Doctor, Hemingway, Robert Anton Wilson, Martin Amis, Terry Pratchett, Jonathon Safran Foer, Kurt Vonnegut, Richard Bach, Mark Shand, Hunter S Thompson, Dr Seuss.

Some fave reads; If Nobody Speaks of Remarkable Things, Life of Pi, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night time, The Time Travellers Wife, Going Out, Only Forward, The Education of Little Tree, Angel Tech, Cosmic Banditos, Timequake, Slaughterhouse 5, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, Catcher in the Rye, New Scientist, National Geographic, Running with Scissors

Heroes:

Anyone who fights for what they believe in, has passion for their cause and aren't afraid to be true to themselves (and let others be the same). Everyday, unsung heroes. People who aren't afraid to challenge themselves and push themselves out of their comfort zone. My son Charley who constantly inspires me, teaches me, tests me and fills my heart with love.
