I tried acting and was in a couple of very low budget movies, You know the type where you're working for pizza. I realised that acting was not for me.
I've lived in New York, Austin Texas and San Francisco, I have 6 kids, my eldest daughter, with a good friend in Texas, My 2 boys from my 1st marriage, and 2 girls and a boy with my current wife.
I was the original emcee for the Punk/Rock Heavy Metal karaoke for 5 years at Arlene's Grocery before I and the band were unceremoneously fired by the owners. i handed over the reigns to the "Great Vadim" who continues to do a wonderful job.
I managed and booked bands at The Grocery early on for owner Shane Doyle of Sin-e fame and then later alone, some great artists including Jeff Buckley, Beth Orton,Ron Sexsmith,David Grey, The Strokes, Vanessa Carlton,Joss Stone, Martha Wainwright performed during that time.
I was a co-founder of the Arlene Grocery Picture Show Film festival,the first "anti film festival",film festival.If there can be such a thing.
I created The MTV2 show "Album Covers" which featured Dashboard Confessional performing REM's "Automatic for the People" and Guster performing The 1st Violent Femmes Album, Both Michael Stipe and Gordan Gano of the Femmes guested on the shows.I now work with an organisation called Road Recovery www.roadrecovery.org as a music mentor.
Road Recovery helps musicians and music industry professionals that are affected by, or suffer from Drug addiction and alcoholism. I'm now performing every Wednesday night at 9:00pm with The Major Toms at Hawaiian Tropic Zone, www.hawaiiantropiczone.com on 7th Avenue and 49th in New York City. We play all "Brit Rock" songs by the likes of the kinks , bowie, the clash, the who, elvis costello, Oasis, Squeeze, so come and check it out
