Many Coloured Halo

Sorta demented and sad, but social.

About Me

Important: Read this blog entry first before you "befriend" me.
(Note: I am no longer approving any band friend requests unless your band is explicitly listed in my musical interests.)
I am the alpha and the omeg-- wait, that'd be God. I am both yin and yang, spicy and bland, vibrant and muted, everything and nothing wrapped up in a slightly enigmatic package. I value quite a bit, but there are still a lot of things I could do without. I am without compromise because, after years of practicing the art, I have finally said "f*** you" to compromise and have been resolute in being 100% undiluted me ever since. Doing this makes life worth living for me. As does great, honest friendships.
I am greatly addicted to the Internet, though I am surprisingly without a personal website. (This doesn't count.) I do have an "about me" page on Wikipedia (one site you're sure to find me at) that counts as a hub/catchall for everything me-related, which I suspect, in combination with this profile, is enough webspace devoted to me.
Everything else worth knowing about me should be covered in my interests lists or blog entries. I have an LJ I haven't updated in a day and an age because MySpace is so much more convenient for me. No one from MySpace paid me to say that (I wish, though).
(Click on the above image to read my blog entry on this.)
The direct URL for the above linkage is http://www.heartless-bitches.com/members/members12/deanna2.s html -- sorry that the fuckwits who are in charge of MySpace can't see to it that that link is properly dealt with.

My Interests

Reading, writing, and arithmetic. Listening to music. Watching TV. Going to the movies. Cooking. Espousing my points of view. Politics (though I refuse to be a completely naive partisan individual). Maintaining some sense of balance in my life. Going online. Being. Living. Feeling. Seeing.

I'd like to meet:

Complex, intriguing individuals. Intelligent people. Realistic dreamers. Contradictions in terms. People who are NOT into being shallow or filling their brains and lives with nothingness.

Also, guys who look like any of these people and who are eligible hetero bachelors:

Top row (l-r): Christian Bale, Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, John Taylor, Nick Rhodes
Bottom row (l-r): Paul Merton, John Simm, David Sylvian, Steve Jansen

(Hey, a girl can dream, can't she?)

Music:

ABBA, ABC, Academy, Adrian Borland, Adult., Air, Alden Tyrell, Alphaville, Ambulance Ltd., Arcadia, Ascii Disko, Bauhaus, Beggar and Co., Belfegore, Berlin Blondes, Blancmange, Bloc Party, Bodyrockers, Bryan Ferry, Buzzcocks, Camera Obscura, Change, Chic, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Classix Nouveaux, Clear Static, Coldplay, Colin Newman, Comsat Angels, Cut Copy, DAF, David Bowie, David Sylvian, Death From Above 1979, Depeche Mode, Division Of Laura Lee, Duran Duran, Editors, Endgames, Fashion, Fingerprintz, Fischerspooner, Frank Sinatra, Franz Ferdinand, Gang Of Four, Gary Numan, Goldfrapp, Hard-Fi, Heaven 17, Howard Jones, Hubert Kah, Human League, Ian Dury & The Blockheads, Industry, INXS, Interpol, Jansen Barbieri Karn, Japan, Japanese Telecom, John Foxx, John Taylor, Johnny Hates Jazz, Josef K, Joy Division, Kajagoogoo, Kings Of Convenience, Ladytron, Language, Lizzy Mercier Descloux, Martha and the Muffins, Metallica, Metric, Mick Karn, Midge Ure, Mission Of Burma, Modern Eon, Moving Units, My Bloody Valentine, Naked Eyes, New Musik, New Order, Nine Horses, Orange Juice, Paul Haig, Paul Research, Phoenix, Pseudo Echo, Psychedelic Furs, Richard James Burgess, Rosemary Clooney, Roxy Music, Scars, Scary Thieves, Scritti Politti, Simple Minds, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Sisters Of Mercy, Soviet, Space Monkey, Spandau Ballet, Strange Advance, Talk Talk, Tears For Fears, The Bravery, The Church, The Cure, The Devils, The Dolphin Brothers, The Killers, The Lords Of The New Church, The Minor Thirds, The Misfits, The Rapture, The Sound, The Swinging Laurels, Thompson Twins, Travis, Trees, Turin Brakes, TV Mania, Ultravox, Visage, Wang Chung, Way Of The West, William Besson, Wire, Yellow Magic Orchestra, New Wave and New Romantic artists in general, anything "electroclash" or electronica-y, a surprising amount of punk and italo disco, and anything post-punk. This is just a taste of what I love.

Movies:

My favorite movies (no bullshitting) are as follows: 24 Hour Party People, Adventures In Babysitting, All The President's Men, Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind, Fargo, Heathers, Joe Vs. The Volcano, Koyaanisqatsi, Labyrinth, Marathon (2002), Peter's Friends, Pretty In Pink, Real Genius, Sex Lies And Videotape, Sixteen Candles, Some Kind Of Wonderful, The Breakfast Club, The Daytrippers, Trainspotting, Valley Girl, Velvet Goldmine, Waking Life, and When Harry Met Sally. This list might be amended to include other films/movies as time progresses.

Television:

I hate the Food Network. Even Ina Garten, the pretentious, born with a silver spoon in her f***ing mouth b****. I'll only watch cooking shows on Discovery Home (Michael Smith, Kylie Kwong, and Robert Rainford are all awesome), and I like some of PBS's shows. I freakin' love "Life On Mars". I like "House" and the BBCA Gordon Ramsay programs, because I hate the way Ramsay comes across on those Fox shows. I've just seen the debut episode of "Private Practice" and think it looks awesome, so I'm totally giving it one season before it goes under. ;) It looks like I'm never going to stop boycotting Viacom, no matter how hard it is to go without Craig Ferguson late at night. I prefer British humo(u)r, but my favorite comedian is George Lopez (because I can totally relate to everything he says). I'm basically a sucker for some good, hearty documentary TV, still dearly miss Ovation TV, and think LinkTV and UniversityHouse does an ok job of substituting for it.

Books:

The Andy Warhol Diaries. ANYTHING written by Lorrie Moore. I actually got to meet Moore once; she is so incredibly sweet! Lorrie Moore rules! I've gone off Anthony Bourdain because I've realized that he speaks primarily to a specific group of upper class people who wish to pretend to be rebellious, so no matter how much Rachael Ray ribbing he does, at the end of the day he speaks to an audience that does not include me. I've become a Robert D. Kaplan disciple again (oh dear, some of you may be saying) and so I've been poring over his books again. My favorites are his travelogues -- Balkan Ghosts, The Ends Of The Earth, Eastward To Tartary, that kind of thing. F. Scott Fitzgerald is one of my favorite classic fiction authors; I love The Beautiful & Damned, The Great Gatsby, and all of his short stories (my favorite ones are "The Lees Of Happiness" and "Babylon Revisited"). My other favorite? Oscar Wilde. I love him.

Heroes:

My mother. My late father. Dr. Liviu Librescu. Yeah, that will have to do it.

My Blog

Well.

Perhaps I'm not that bad after all.
