Carlos Julio Arosemena Monroy (1919 – 5 March 2004) served as Vice President of Ecuador and due to the ousting of President Velasco Ibarra, became President of Ecuador from 7 November 1961 to 11 July 1963. While in office, there were two failed attempts to impeach him. He was overthrown by a military junta in 1963. Vice President Carlos Julio Arosemena Monroy assumed the presidency on 7 November 1961. Arosemena lasted less than two years, and in July 1963, he was arrested by the military for "drunkenness" (a charge that could have been substantiated throughout his presidency) and sent into exile.
