The Monastery Artists Collective

The hammer that shapes reality

About Me

:[ WHAT IS IT? ]:
The Monastery Artists Collective is a concept with a physical manifestation. The concept: Art is a powerful instrument of change able to affect people's awareness and thereby affect their reality and change the world. The manifestation is an affiliation of artists based in Manchester, New Hampshire, who collaborate to produce work to challenge and inspire themselves and their community.
:[ who can participate ]:
Anyone with a desire to be involved & who respects the needs & concerns of the group as it exists at any given time, & who has an inner need to be an artist so strong they are unfit to do anything else, outcasts & misfits not crippled with pessimism & defeatism, those who are childlike and hopeful, inspired to add beauty unconditionally to humanity, those with a deep sense of compassion, knowledge of the inherent dignity of life, distrust of dogma & who wield their distrust of authority as a sword; those who love Truth above all things, who know their ideas are wrong but in good faith do what is right based on their understanding at the time of action, who value deeds over words & are willing to work for what they want & want to change the world, who listen to the voice inside their heads that speaks to them of what is right & that they are not afraid to listen to & act upon.

Due to the rise of requests for rock bands to play here, I would like to remind you that we are NOT a rock venue. However, we don't mind the occasional rock show from time to time.

HELP WANTED:

There are a few things we could use help with that perhaps some of you might be interested in getting involved with. Consider it a way of supporting your local arts community, random acts of kindness, ways to get involved with the Monastery group, Karma, whatever....we are looking for:

1) Volunteers to help hang/paint/sheetrock a wall or two.
2) We could use more sheetrock as well. And maybe some studs.
3) We need a sink, one of the industrial kinds. Also a small shower stall.
4) Always in need of: extension cords, lightbulbs, portable utility lamps, card tables, paper for inkjet printer, old picture frames, chairs, scrap wood, scrap metal, Coffffeeeee, sharpy markers.
5) If anyone wanted to donate an internet connection we would make them a gold plaque with their name on it & the words "Most Beloved Benefactor" and hang it above our front door.

I'd like to meet:

:[ how do participants participate? ]:

By showing up, sharing of themselves, receiving from others & producing work with integrity. There is no process or application; however there is an expectation of dedication and responsibility toward the pursuit of creation. There are no rules or dues. You choose the level & nature of involvement based solely on your actions, ideas, effort & desire. You are "in" to the degree you participate, contibute & produce. You are "out" to the degree you detract from the overall creative environment &/or the degree of your detachment.

:[ why get involved? ]:

To get & to give creative energy, to belong to an idealistic community of experimental artists, to add to the cultural landscape of the community, to bask in the sunlight of our collective love, to grow and improve as an individual, to learn from otehrs, to teach others, to create something undefined and great.
