this is possibly very boring. i like to listen to interesting music, watch interesting films, read interesting books and comics, hang out with interesting people, and at times just be by myself. very boring indeed.
people who can look and listen in between what society expects of us. controlled insanity is okay though i believe taking responsibility for our own actions is an obvious no-brainer.
obscure prog rock, krautrock, experimental, exotica, old time blues, various folk musics, electronic, psychedelic, modern composition, fluxus, cool and avant-garde jazz. i prefer earlier forms of these musics but there are some modern practitioners that i feel are simply amazing. van der graaf generator, wyatt-era soft machine, barrett-era pink floyd, miles davis, john cage, kevin drumm, yma sumac, john fahey, incredible string band, wolf eyes, amm, fred frith, howlin' wolf, eric dolphy, harry partch, bonzo dog band, hawkwind, can, amon duul II, faust, philip corner, id m theft able, crank sturgeon, mystic out-bop review, etc., etc....
a mere sampling...italian horror, european fantasy, screwball comedy, hammer and amicus horror, sci-fi, classic hollywood, poverty row, mario bava, orson welles, roman polanski, akira kurosawa, jan svankmajer, edgar ulmer, james whale, alfred hitchcock, sergio leone, marx bros, and... and...the list goes on.
i do not watch television though i have enjoyed past shows including the twilight zone, monty python's flying circus, little britain, the league of gentlemen, twin peaks, the honeymooners and a few others that have stood out. for the most part television is a complete waste of my time that i can't afford to lose.
i'll include comics and magazines that i enjoy in this list. matt howarth, robert crumb, harvey pekar, julie doucet, the hernandez bros., jim woodring, the wire, record collector, signal to noise, h.p lovecraft, italo calvino, shirley jackson, milan kundera, and i'll stop here. for now.
all the people i have mentioned plus anyone else who has the vision, and the nerve, to take chances and to follow through with the conviction to do life their way. to not follow the ordinary as much as one can is my definition of a hero. life has many flavors and many smells and not too many people care to discover what they are.
