EJ Maldonado
Biography
________________________________________
EJ Maldonado is a singer-songwriter that blends every aspect of human emotion with booming vocals, revealing words, and tasteful hooks and translates it into an experience every listener can relate to on a personal level. His ability to connect with his audience through his words and voice is evident as they sing along during and after the show. His confidence is both inspiring and breathtaking when he takes the stage, closes his eyes, and pulls everyone in to his world. Reminiscent of his influences, he reminds us that it's ok to feel and that singer-songwriters are not a dying breed.
Not new to the music scene in Reno/Sparks area, Maldonado has been the lead singer/guitarist of different bands in the area for the past decade and has enjoyed varying degrees of success with each of them throughout his career. He has recorded studio demos, EP's, and LP's and played various venues in Nevada and California (most notably the Whisky A Go Go in Los Angeles). His first show was to a full house at Walden's Coffeehouse on November 11, 2006, which garnered him some press in the Reno News and Review in the form of a brilliant article by Sarah Cook (www.newsreview.com). Maldonado followed up with another show two months later and brought many of the crowd on stage with him to sing the final song of his set, "Sorry".
Maldonado has received airplay on local radio stations 100.1FM KTHX "The X" and 100.9FM KRZQ, continued press, and was part of KRZQ's Spring Forward Campaign which brought musicians and local charities together to raise money. A highlight of 2007 was playing to over 900 people for "A'bout Reno", a large festival sponsored by KRZQ, that included three other local bands and roller derby. Another highlight was being part of The X's "Cash For Cash" Benefit Concert at the Nugget Celebrity Showroom where local artists played to a sold out crowd and raised money for children and families. Maldonado continues to be a big part of the local music scene as an active musician and a supporter of the scene itself through community charities and plain old supporting his fellow musicians.
Maldonado is continuing to play in the Reno/Sparks area on a consistent basis and is planning a mini-tour of the west coast in 2008. He self-produced, self-recorded, and released an EP entitled "Safe Behind These Walls" in early 2007 as a means to get his music heard by the masses and has since built on to his home studio.
Released on February 23rd, "a/wake", a "live" recording done in his studio. "I wanted to do an album of live tracks that encompassed material in my set lists over the past year or so... not to mention, there is something to be said about single take recording without all the overdubbing and punching in and out... it's just me, a guitar, two mics, and a live recording at its purest form."
He is also in the process of writing and recording his next LP entitled "Twilight" which has a tentative release of June 2008. Maldonado says, "there will be some surprises in this next album. I love the writing process so much. Sometimes you just don't know where it will take you, but when you get there, it just all make sense."
