About Me

I started playing solo-acoustic shows after moving to Reno, NV in 1997. Somewhere in '98 or '99 I started playing bass and singing with rawk band Sweet Polly. About the time that Sweet Polly met its demise (2001), Kent Miura started joining me onstage with the acoustic act, providing rhythm on various percussion instruments, though concentrating on djembe. We had a brief affiliation with James Wilsey, Jr., called Citizen Square. James W. surrendered to his Rockabilly longings and went his own way with Reno rockers, The Train Wrecks. Back in the James Cavanaugh camp, we were able to convince Gia Torcasso to play bass and sing background vocals with us, and Kent had moved from djembe to cajon, adding a new dimension to our sound. We performed as James Cavanaugh & Company and released the CD, JC & Co. (http://cdbaby.com/cd/jcavanaugh). Since early 2006 I've been without the Co., but have been working on a solo-album, utilizing local talent like Gary Setzer (drums), Monique Jade (vocals), Tony Cotaldo (trumpet), and even my old friends, Kent and Gia. The Charm of Hugo CD release party is coming right up! I'll let you know when I'm able to sell it. :-) In the meantime, enjoy the samples.
