in the earliest times in my life and memory music has been overwhelmingly present. whether it was my mother playing marvin gaye, the spinners or the o'jays in the living room, one brother in the basement playing along with mahavishnu orchestra and earth, wind, and fire records or another brother in his bedroom blending disco records and cuttin' funk breaks with these crazy new record players that could speed up and slow down by moving a dial. i tagged along with brother Dion and his dj crew "the untouchables" (ok he was babysitting but whatever) and started to learn how to dj. when i got good my brother took me on the lirr for first time when i was 8 yrs old to jamaica av, jamaica queens, bought me my first outfit with my new dj name that he gave me on it. "mix master d." nice!8 yrs old started djing.
10 to 12 yrs old played drums, started breakdancing, experimented with playing bass, congas and beatboxes.
13 yrs old played guitar and started clubbing.
18 yrs old drum machines and sequencing.most of my passion was with the guitar playing in bands with various styles such as thrash metal, hardcore, r&b and jazz until the early 90's when a phenomenom hit l.i. this phenomenom was the rave scene and a club called caffeine. i had desire to dj again. although the scene was rich in techno, i decided that i wanted to play house music like i had heard when i was going to the redzone, sound factory and the world. i met some people, got some gigs a became a part of a fraternity of dj's from caffeine i.e. onionz, micro, nickodemus, sameer, dna, felli, phat sauce aka nick pepe', ethan, buddy etc.
and i have been vibin' ever since. after playing with nickodemus weekly at a place called soulfood, along with our boys ivan and eulas we started a couple of parties called boogie wonderland and soulcraft which was more concentrated deep house, acid jazz and hip hop. l.i. started to fade and everyone went west. yeah, nyc/brooklyn. nicko hooked up with giant step and then so did i. from 95 to 97 held residencies at various places, played at too many clubs to name and then guiliani whipped up nyc like nothing else. i still continued to dj with long time selectors such as darntings aka darren d, omar as well as chris annibel aka osiris, little jay, jay skrobe, nat rahav, eddy plenty nick patton etc., but behind the scenes, i have redirected my main focus on writing, production, engineering and so on and , here we are!
