About Me

Selahchick is like James Taylor going for a walk with Nina Simone down in SoHo looking for the herbman, who just so happens to be Erykah Badu. She takes them soaring on the wings of hip hop, while all humming a Billie Holiday number. I don't know, that's just how I feel about my music and myself. I am an entre-po-negro and have been since conception. As the second-born child of two Capricorn parents, I was meant to live for music, love, and free enterprise.My style musically is jazz based. I attended Central State University, of Wilberforce, Ohio as a Jazz Vocal performance major and English minor. I have travel and performed with a number of ensembles including a steel pan group and a performing arts ensemble called the Black Oak project. Currently I perform as a solo artist and with Ya'mama'nym, a DC based soul band. We are preparing for tour and will be touring East Africa and the Middle East.With melodic blends of soulful, smooth vocals combined with sweet grooves and intoxicating lyrics that inspire you to move , Selahchick is spellbinding.
