Kayah

Kayah is one of the most influential recording artists in Poland. She stormed the Polish music scene in 1995 with the release of her debut record "Kamien". The record, oscillating in climates of soul, jazz and R&B, met high appreciation of critics and fans eventually going Gold. She was granted with Poland's most prestigious award – “Fryderyk ‘95” for the best female singer and as “Personality of the Year 1996” by Telewizja Polska (National Polish Television), making her an unchallenged star. Her next album “Zebra”, published by BMG in 1997. Two years after the “Zebra” record, Kayah decided to collaborate with Goran Bregovi..pij" and „Prawy do lewego", went 7x Platinum, becoming the greatest artistic and commercial success in the history of Poland. "Kayah i Bregovich" was an international best-seller in Europe gaining 7th position in the European charts during the first two weeks of sale. Promotion of the record included a press-tour in Italy and France. Kayah's next album ”JAKA JA KAYAH” was launched on 12th of May 2000 goin gold in only 4 days. Within 10 concerts from the series “Wielka MajÛwka Radia Zet” with Kayah had performed for over half a million people. She was given 4 “SUPERJEDYNKA” awards (the most important award of TVP) in the categories of: Best Female Singer, Hit Single, Video and The Record of the Year. The record “Jaka Ja Kayah” was awarded 6 nominations in the 2000 edition of “Fryderyki” awards. Kayah was awarded “Yach” award for the best acting performance in “Jaka Ja Kayah” video. She was also nominated as a local artist for the MTV Music Awards and given the Radio Eska award for “media personality of the year". At the end of 2000 Kayah sang a duet with International sensation Cesaria Evora, which yielded the hit single “EMBARCACAO”. The beautiful video to Embarcacao realized by J. Szoda, B. Pawica, F. Kovcin recieved an award for best director at the 10th Jubilee “Yach Film”. Festival. In 2002 she performed at the Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall, the world's most prestigous concert hall, in New York City.Her next album “Stereo Typ”, preceded by the hit single “Testosteron”, was released in August of 2003, and immediately reached the top of the charts going Gold. “Stereo Typ” recieved 7 nominations from the Polish Phonographic Academy Award “Fryderyk 2003” for pop record, female vocalist, composer, songwriter, music production, best song and best video. Her latest album 2005's "The Best and the Rest" concluded her 9 years with BMG and ignited the launching of her own record label Kayax. One of the first releases from her label Krzysztof Kiljanski's "In The Room" went platinum and became the biggest album in Poland for 2005. The hit single "Procz Ciebie Nic" a duet with Krysztof and Kayah went on to win the Superjedynka Polish Television Award for best song of 2005. Kayah's significant influence on Polish popular culture extends from music to film, theatre, and fashion. In September of 2005 she opened for international superstar Sting.
