LUNDQVISTHenrik Lundqvist: The second-year goaltender continues to maintain standings as the Rangers’ mostimportant player. Lundqvist went 37-22-8 in 70 games this season with five shutouts with an averagedefense corps in front of him. Despite a slow start and an early string of allowing bad goals, Lundqvistcarried the Rangers since the All Star Break and finished his sophomore season with a 2.34 GAA and a .917save-percentage. If he can maintain his hot play between the pipes, the Rangers could go very deep intothe playoffs.
JAGRJaromir Jagr: Jagr finished the regular season with a team high 30 goals and 96 points, despite playingmost of the year at half-strength. The shoulder injury that hurt the Rangers in the playoffs last yearslowed Jagr most of the season and limited his once-fearsome shot from the right circle. Still, No. 68remains one of the best offensive players in the world. In 149 career playoff games, including a pair ofCup championships with Pittsburgh in 1991 and 1992, Jagr has 67 goals, 88 assists and 155 points. Goodluck matching up against that.
SHANAHANBrendan Shanahan: This is why Shanahan was brought in last summer. The three-time Cup winner with Detroitis going to be counted on to bring some championship mojo to Broadway this spring after an impressivefirst season in New York. Shanahan scored 29 goals and 62 points and won over the home fans this seasonwith the Rangers. He was their heart and soul for most of the season and can become an instant legend ifhe continues the playoff pace that’s seen Shanny score 53 goals and 119 points in 157 career postseasongames.
AVERYSean Avery: Opponents love to hate him, but ever since joining the Rangers in February, Avery hasresurrected his hockey career. The Rangers went 17-6-6 since Avery joined the team Feb. 6 and he’s becomea Garden sensation for his rugged play and sandpaper game.
