The hand that rocks the cradle rules a nation and its destiny. --South Afrikan proverb

About Me

God-fearer, God-lover. Carmen bint Noor. Islamic Bohemian "Moorette". The product yielded from the Big Bang that occurs when the conscious sista meets the hippie chick. The Earthly Trinity of [future] wife, mother, and physician; Ma'at-seeker; loc-wearer; amateur chef; confidante/best friend; his "soul mate" and "future wife"; firstborn of a firstborn; healer of many a mind, body, and soul; sister/daughter, the sista who can "switch from corporate to ghetto"; free spirit; magnolia-poppy hybrid; affection-provider.
Finally, and most importantly, I am an Afrikan warrior princess who keeps fighting the good fight while maintaining her dignity who continues to be "...on a perpetual quest for peace, wisdom, and a love eternal..."

My Interests

Spiritual/religious study (esp. al-Islam), World Peace, Interfaith services/discussions, chess, W. Afrikan dance, holisitic medicine, food, unique jewlery, Afrikan consciousness, music, books, poetry venues, coffeehouses, photography, travel, and more...

I'd like to meet:

God; Jesus (pbuh) to ask him what he REALLY thinks about what all is going on in this world; all of the other prophets of Islam, mentioned and unmentioned in the Quran; my forefathers and -mothers; Assata Shakur; Barack Obama; Imam Zaid Shakir; Hugo Chavez; Fidel Castro; Huey Freeman; Ras Malaku Lorne...

Poets, revolutionaries, mommies and daddies, People of The Book (Muslims, Christians, & Jews) and spiritual-but-not-religious folks, doctors and street peddlers, college educated folks and folks educated by life experience, musicians.
In short, ANY AND ALL INDIVIDUALS WHO EMIT POSITIVE NRG.

Music:

Native Deen, Immortal Technique, David Benoit, KRS One, Angelique Kidjo, Kurt Carr, J.S. Bach, Yolanda Adams, John Coltrane, Vanessa-Mae, Faith Hill, Jonathan Butler, Makina Loca, Antonio Vivaldi, Angie Martinez, 2Pac, Musiq, Shania Twain, Jill Scott, Talib Kweli, Dead Prez, Sami Yusuf, the artists from Remarkable Current, X-Clan, Jay Lou Ava, Tarika, Celia Cruz...
What can I say? My taste in music is just as heterogenous as my personality. :o)

Movies:

The Great Debaters, Why Did I Get Married, Malcolm X, Panther, Crash, Rosewood, American Gangster, Enough, Madagascar, Akeelah and the Bee... I tend to gravitate toward documentaries, dramas based on true stories, kiddie movies (I've 6 year old brother and cousins between 4 and 9 years of age), movies that involve supernatural events, and Black dramas.

Television:

The Boondocks TV series, Robot Chicken, The Style Network, HGTV, The Weather Channel, CNN, MSNBC, BBC. NPR--though not television--is handy, too.

Books:

The Holy Quran, The Holy Bible (I've a special place in my heart for Psalms, Proverbs, and--of course--the Injeel), Ma'at the 11 Laws of God, The Boondocks, Sacred Woman, Islam and the Blackamerican, How to Eat & Live Longer, Assata, Naked, Juice Fasting and Detoxification, Hair Story, The Divine Nine...in short, I enjoy texts, research papers, comic books/strips, and periodicals that manage to fill my spiritual belly, open my 3rd eye, educate me in some form, and allow me an occasional hearty laugh.

Heroes:

Imhotep, ALL of The Ancestors, people unjustly imprisoned becase they rebelled against an oppressive state (I mean, wouldn't you rebel, too???), my mother, my grandparents, my 5 year old brother, my Brothers and Sisters all over the world who manage(d) to live under oppression and still keep their heads up when times were at their worst.

My Blog

I miss the ivory...

...and I never thought I would. Maybe it's because I am old as hell with my 10 year class reunion around the corner and I am thinking about the good (and bad times) in string orchestra. Maybe it's bec...

Positive Male-Female Relationships in the Black Community

I just finished watching Oprah, something I rarely do for a number of reasons. It was nice to see "The Cosby Kids", looking all grown and stuff. Bill was on there, too, via satellite. Oprah said that...
