NASSUNNI: NOT... Your Ordinary Poet

Can You Handle The Truth?

About Me

NASSUNNI is a visual artist, designer, poet, and performer of spoken word. She hails from the diverse city of New York, with positive influences from: Islam, R&B, hip-hop, pop-rock, and everyday life experiences that flows through words right from her soul. Not your ordinary poet, NASSUNNI was inspired to write at the tender age of 10 after meeting poet/activist Nikki Giovanni on the playground of an apartment complex in uptown Manhattan. Later on she pursued a career in acting and appeared in several television commercials. But it wasn't until she moved to Philadelphia that her interest in the arts grew. Enrolling in the Philadelphia Art Institute, and joining McDowell & Edwards theatrical group, NASSUNNI was cast as the lead character in "When Colored Girls Commit Suicide When The Rainbow Is Not Enuf", directed by Leamon Troublefield. Since her acting debut on stage, her desire to write and perform increased. Her work has appeared in the Writer Blocks, a literary and visual arts newspaper. She was featured and interviewed on Urban Cable Works show "Up and Coming", a guest on WURD-900AM, Temple Universities WRTI-90.1AM, Chicago's Internet station WCEV-1450AM, and was a finalist in the Night Of Black Passion Spoken Word Series. Well known amongst her peers, NASSUNNI brings originality when she steps up to the microphone at Philadelphia's October Gallery's Panoramic Poetry, The Black Women's Art Festival, Heal Thyself Garden Party, The International Black Art Expo, Soul Speak at the Nile, and The Revival in Harlem. In her community endeavors, NASSUNNI was invited to host and perform her hit single, "Monday Morning" at The Women Against Abuse Stop The Violence Fundraiser held at The Philadelphia African American Museum in 2005. This fun loving, down to earth sister can be found sharing her thoughts at various venues through out the city of Philadelphia, New York, New Jersey, Baltimore Maryland, and Washington D.C... Future aspirations are to perform across the East and West coast networking with other Poets, hip-hop, R&B, Neo-Soul, Jazz, and even pop/rock artist.Look Out For Her New CD "NASSUNNI: NOT...Your Ordinary Poet"...A Different Flavor Of Poetic Vibe With A taste Of R&B, Neo-Soul, Funk, Hip-Hop, and Jazz ....Her Autobiography: "Spoken Soul"....And a 2 hour play based on domestic violence....One love, One family, One mission!
