About Me

The band is temporarily inactive. But fear not, The Kobayashis are here to stay!
In August 2000, Julian and Johan met as they both started going to the same school, United World College. They became good friends. They started jamming with this French kid Emmanuel in their grade, and the three boys formed a little cover band called Street Spirit, practicing in Julian's basement. Emmanuel left shortly thereafter to Australia, and Johan and Julian saw little hope for the future. Johan went off and started New-Klear sounds, an acoustic band, and Julian kept practicing the drums. In the fall of 2001, Johan, Julian and two guys from their school formed the infamous Hard-drinking housewives. They existed for about a month. One night Johan and Julian were sulking due to the fact that the band wasn't going anywhere, and the other members weren't committed enough, when they met John Bour. The three of them started talking about forming a band after finding out that they shared a passion for Bush (the band, not the president), A perfect circle and drinking too much. The three of them and John's friend Daniel formed -bleached-. This was in the winter of 2001. They kept playing and performed at the ISS mega band show in March the following year. Following the success of the concert, they recorded their two songs, Head rush and The Failure. Shortly thereafter, the band was faced with a big problem; John moved to Bangkok. The remaining members decided to keep going, and to find a replacement guitar player. Daniel and John's friend, the eccentric Japanese guitar player Ryohei, joined the band in April 2002. The band had finally found its sound and the people to create it.
Bleached played at the SAS peace concert, and were very successful, they participated in the Asian Beat competition, and went to the finals. They started working with the production company Zion in January. Since then things have really been working out for them. They have been featured in Lime magazine and IS magazine, as well as on MTV after school rocks. They have performed several times at both Oosh club and Hard rock cafe. And in July they performed at the Bay beats festival.
In February 2004, Johan and Julian ate their last chicken rice and left Singapore to continue their studies in Sydney. Ryohei finished his last bubble tea and joined the two men for some victoria bitter. Unfortunately, Daniel decided to part ways, and spread his communist beliefs in Pittsburgh.
You might wonder, so did they find a new bassist? Yes, they were blessed with a very talented musician and boozer: Daniel Jackson, the new Dan the man. The reformed -bleached- had their debut performance at the marQuee, where they also shot the music video for the song "Choke". They have once again found their sound and the people to create it. At least that's what they thought.
They do not like to be labeled under a category, but if so, their genre is cowabunga kung-fu rock.
In September 2007, the band met their sudden demise when they decided to part ways with their drummer, Julian. The end. No, not really. Johan and Ryo have decided to shift their focus to their acoustic project: The Kobayashis. While Dan travels around the world with his missus, the acoustic duo will be in full spin. It should be.
Thank you Julian for being with us thus far.
Danke.
