Our story
Inspired by legendary acts such as Alice In Chains,
Soundgarden, Stone Temple Pilots and Tool,
Countershock brings their own unique twist to the
alternative hard rock genre. With Friz's piercing
guitars, M'Lisa's soulful vocals, Jeff's agressive
drumming, and Rick's melodic bass style, Countershock
delivers powerful energy and emotion like few
independent artists can, especially in their live
performances.
In 2004, Paul "Friz" Frislie (guitar) and M'Lisa Black
(vocals) formed Disclaimer, a foursome out of Southern
California. After about a year of performing on the
local Southern California club scene and after
recording a 4-song demo, they found themselves in need
of a drummer and bass player, with the old bass player
picking up rhythm guitar, making it a 5 piece band.
Jeff Lyons eventually took over percussion duties and
another bass player was brought in.
Citing creative differences, the rhythm guitar player
quit after a few months. Although the group was a
little apprehensive about the loss, they soon found a
whole new vein of creative freedom. In a matter of
months, they had expanded their sound, doubled their
set list and revamped some of their original material.
Towards the end of 2006, while recording their first
full-length CD, entitled TOYS, the band found
themselves without a bass player, again. Recording
continued with Jeff covering the bass parts as well as
drums while the search for a permanent bass player was
started. It wasn't until the CD was being pre-mastered
that they found Rick Jones to round out the lineup.
Rick solidifies the rhythm section like never before
and, along with the 6 months of downtime, renewed the
band's thirst for performing live.
It was at this time they discovered that Disclaimer
would no longer work as the band name for legal
reasons. With CD production halted, the rush was on to
come up with a new name. M'Lisa came up with
Countershock after looking through a medical text
book. CD production was resumed and the band was soon
quenching their thirst booking gigs in anticipation of
their TOYS release in 2007.
With a new name, new CD, and new personnel,
Countershock are set to take on the world, one venue
at a time.
