...to sing my song, to hold my head up high...

About Me

******PHOTOS: JAMARR MAYS****** ********MAKE-UP: E-MARIE************ Hmmm, let's see...I'm a singer- I write songs and play guitar...and that is me--that pretty much sums me up...If you feel like reading more... My music is my very soul. To get to know me is largely to get to know my music. My life story is woven throughout all of it. I have 2 full-length CDs-- "Dancing On The Dragon" and "Butterfly Child". OFFICIAL WEBSITE: www.leahcarlagordone.com or click on the TOP 8 PIC of me to get you to my Myspace Music site. I love getting messages so lay them on me. I love the written word--it's like it's carved in stone, y'know? (Or not) Ya gotta THINK about what you write. It's much more sophisticated than babbling on the phone... I was born and raised in NYC and I've been playing 12-string guitar and writing songs for a long time. My songs have literally saved my life. During tough times, they are what I have imagined my angels would sing to me... I have two cats that are the equivalent of children to me. I'm kinda shy and outgoing at the same time-- my career requires me to be a bit of an extrovert at least half of the time. Get me into any deep, meaningful discussion and I will talk your ear off (or message your eyes off, depending)... If it's trite and trivial--I get quiet as a mouse so at parties you'll find me heavily engrossed or that little wall flower in the corner depending on how intricate the people are. I'm always looking for meaningful connections. My music is for everyone. It's hard to put me in a category --it's really one big brew of acoustic(sometimes)/folk/soul/powerpop/rock and funk. I was performing SOLO for a long time but I AM PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE I HAVE A NEW BAND! Featuring Mark Brennan on drums, Ryan Combs on bass, and Kelly Simmons on viola! We are SMOKIN'. So come check us out. We're playing all the local clubs here in Columbus. I keep writing new songs that continue to test my bounds--each seeming to surpass the next--as my soul deepens so does my music. MY BAND IS SOUNDING AMAZING! It's definitely gonna make you wanna dance or just really listen intently. My lyrics are what I need to "get out" to release my various levels of confusion--when I put them to songs--a certain clarity comes about. Many people have told me how my songs have made them stronger, made them feel better, helped them to realize how we all go through the same things...This also fuels me to keep doing what I'm doing. But just as I realize we, as humans, are all connected, no one better than the other--I still can't help but feel "different"--I feel special--here for a greater purpose --always felt destined for greatness. My father was the first playwright of African American descent to win a Pulitzer-Prize for his play "No Place To Be Somebody". He has passed on but I will love him always...The bigger picture for me is--not that I'm SUPPOSED to become some "rockstar"--I'm just doin' my thing--sharin' my music with whoever wants to listen--whoever is open to hearing my journey, my struggles, my views--life as I see it and experience it. I connect with people who are drawn to ART and the ESSENCE of artistic "BEING" and who are not so concerned with HOW to make MONEY... I deplore the thought of someone whose sole purpose in existence revolves around making money--the pursuit of money does not bring happiness but rather-the devotion to self and inner voice teachings will bring happiness and wealth on all levels of existence...I also believe that there are different, higher and lower levels of spiritual existence that humans operate on...Well, this could have been a blog but there, I've said it. So as I hinted at earlier, if you want to send me a message-it ought to say SOMETHING-- I'm not "nice"--but I believe I am kind-hearted. So, please, say,'Hi' to me or probe my brain to find The Deeper Truth About Leah-Carla! This is just the TOP layer"(smile)
