About Me

MosesChild is the artist name of Gideon Cohen, a kid from NYC who now observes the world from Montreal. MosesChild started his songwriting career as a teenager playing guitar in Central Park and busking in the subways, and creating a musical riot (some people were throwing flowers, some soda cans) at the talent show of Stuyvestant high school by being so different from the mainstream. (His acoustic music with 3 part vocal harmony was too folky and 'hippy dippy' for some people at the height of the Beastie Boys popularity.) After high school, MosesChild went on to study Music & English at NYU before taking a job as a recording engineer (first recording a bunch of Gospel albums that went national) at a Manhattan recording studio. He concedes that during this period, the soulful flavor of Gospel Music forever permeated his musical thought and character. After getting married, he moved to Canada and opened his own recording studio "Sonic Tonic" where he still records and produces bands. In 2000-2004 MosesChild got a break in Hip-Hop and Dancehall working with the R&B band Scandalous, and with Triple Madness where he did much producing, arranging, writing and performing, including the track "So Many Girls" that reached #7 on the Seychelles CocaCola top 40 charts in 2002.2005 brought Hurricane Katrina, the largest natural disaster in US history, that the gov't so badly handled that it inspired the first, all original release by MosesChild, "This is Babylon" which immediately got acclaim by winning the Indie Artist Alliance 2nd Cd Compilation Contest. Now MosesChild is working with Montreal artists and producers to create his "This is Babylon" EP and "Songs I/O" LP for the spring and fall of 2007.
