I am here for Serious Relationships, Friends and Networking

About Me

A native of the San Frantastic Bay Area, I've been into Metal since those formative days in Catholic school and have always tried to be involved in it in some way. I enjoyed a brief stint as a late night radio dj, playing the Gospel of Metal on the airwaves to hippie haven of Santa Cruz. Later, I attempted to form a band with my friends, but I didn't have the dedication to keep playing guitar. So I turned to writing, a form of expression that came more naturally and didn't involve lugging around amps and having dented callouses on your fingers. I channeled my love of metal into the zine Cat Butt,, which featured personal stories and humourous observations related to the music and the scene. I later wrote scene reports for Metal Rules! magazine. After focusing on other pursuits for a few years, my inspiration returned and I picked up writing in 2004 and now write show reviews for local music bulletin boards to keep my chops up.I try to embody the spirit of positive perseverance (with a dash of playful perversion). I've learned how crucial it is to keep a humorous outlook to get through what life throws at you, so I like to surround myself with friends who enrich my life with their ability to make me laugh. But I'm not all about rainbows and fluffy bunnies--my tastes often run to the dark, twisted, and slightly demented in terms of my musical/reading/artistic tastes.I value my job at a non-profit as it has a mission I can feel proud of and doesn't engulf my life. One of the things I enjoy in my off-time is seeing live music--usually of the loud, hard-rockin' variety. (Though I'm more open minded in my years now and can appreciate a great performance outside my usual musical realm.) I'm totally enthusiastic about things I love. I'll be the one fully rocking out at a show rather than just standing there looking cool. But I'm not one to hide from the daylight. (Ahhhh! The burning!) I'm just as likely to want to find a new hiking trail, scope a new place for birdwatching, or spend the day exploring a new neighborhood's bookstores and cafes.Quiet times are essential to recharge my batteries -- making dinner together, having a game night with friends. It's easier to be comfortable in those down-times when there's a loving partner to share them with. I don't have structured spiritual belief system, though I lean towards a semi Zen/Buddhist outlook.

My Interests

Metal, punk and generally hard rockin' music shows, but I also like listening to other kinds of music and even *gasp* dancing! I'm also a nature lover and would love to get out and hike and camp more than I do. I love hiking and birdwatching especially. I'm an avid reader, though I have TV shows that lure me in and the movies I enjoy best are smaller indie movies--especially documentaries. I love travelling too.

I'd like to meet:

You're intelligent and quick-witted, you enjoy the alchemy created by verbal interplay that heightens physical chemistry. You're excited and confident about your general direction in life. Detour signs may appear--use of GPS to figure out the best course is always an option. As Ben Franklin would say, "Neither a workaholic nor a slacker be." (Or maybe that was Ben Affleck.) We would revel in brightening our daily lives with laughter and love, but to also fully be there for each other when it's not time for fun and games.Someone who's attracted to the offbeat and oddball--perhaps a bit edgy, but definitely not over the edge. You don't need a drink or your drug of choice to have a good time and don't need to indulge on a daily basis to deal with life's stresses.Wants to be in a long-term relationsip/committed partnership that has a path other than a house in the 'burbs and 3.14159 kids. Let's explore ways we can enrich the world and ourselves.

Mixed Tapes and Melancholy Memories

The other night, I was sitting with my computer at a cafe on the first day of my new self-imposed writing regimen. I had my portable cassette player with me with an old mixed tape to help inspire me. ...

The Stooges, The Warfield, San Francisco, April 21, 2007

I'll admit it. I was a total Stooges poser going into this show. Sure, I knew Iggy as an iconic rock n' roll figure who was known as the Godfather of Punk. (Did that mean he left severed horse heads i...

Be a Goddamn Hero!

I go to see lots of live music. I'm lucky to live in a city that offers an amazing variety of music every day of the week. That said, while I'm always game to go see a band that someone has assured me...
