About Me

I am a Bass player with a horrible gear acquisition problem. My bass/amp collection is pretty sizable. I have my own little side biz doing Contracting/remodeling and have spent a good deal of time writing grants for Boston Public Schools.

More random facts about me: mosquitoes love me. if you are near me on a hot, soupy evening, you will not get ANY mosquito bites. I am a sucker for new toothbrush designs. I'm a complete geek about / am obsessed with vintage music gear.tube amps, instruments, effects processors. I like to build things with my hands. I interpret almost everything visually. I have about twenty black t-shirts and 8 pairs of the same shoes. Music - dark and dirty and flannel (unless it's bossa)

My Interests

Bass, Performing, building and restoring things, architecture, design and some stuff that I wouldn't post in a public forum. Oh yeah, Coffee plays a big part in my life too...

I'd like to meet:

Simply put, I'd like to meet interesting people that engage and challenge me in a positive way.

Specifically - In my dreams:Mitchell Froom, Christina Ricci, Bob Moog (RIP), Tom Waits, Beck, PJ Harvey...and about 5000 other people so any specific list would be exclusionary really. (oh, and please don't e-mail me to inform me that Bob Moog is dead). I meet interesting peeps almost daily.

Musically, I'd like to meet artists to collaborate with. I just may want to join or build a project with you. - guitarists, synth/key players, percussionists, vibes, DJ's... anything. If you're in the Boston area and want to collaborate, hit me up.

Music:

I dig all forms of music (some, a lot more selectively than others). Roots, americana, trip hop, rock, funk.... (I'm a slave to trad and modern bossanova). I'm into vintage gear and I love listening to music that incorporates the tones/sounds/spirit of the gear I dig... again, any list would be exclusionary...

Movies:

Freeway, Apocalypse Now, Mystery Train, Barton Fink, Down by Law, The Ice Storm, most Kubrick films and a lot more of course...

Television:

I watch almost NO television but I dig the Daily Show, IFC, Sundance, History, PBS, Discovery and all that hippie indie crap. You get the idea. Steelers and Penguins whenever possible...

Books:

I read a lot of books. Mostly music/interest related. Recently: Analog Days, A&R, Howlin' at the Moon, Yes Yes Y'all, This Band Could be Your Life, The Hood Comes First. Lots of musician Biographies. Recent non music related: Devil in the White City, The Corrections, The Road, The Amazing Adventures of Cavaleir and Klay..

Heroes:

Mitchell Froom, Mike Watt, Chris Wood, Bruce Thomas, Colin Moulding, James Jamerson, Mark Sandman, Beck etc. A lot of my friends are everyday superheroes - i won't embarrass anyone but I know some undeniably incredible people...

BAOTW: Mark Mothersbaugh/DEVO

DEVO took the art of a conceptual band to a whole new level. Way ahead of their time, Mark Mothersbaugh's DEVO is most often thought of as that band that played "Whip it" but they (and Gary Numan) mi...
