Rob Rhodes is an artist who grew up in the working class suburbs of South-Western Sydney and like many performers, cut his teeth playing in local bars. Thanks to his parents, Rob was exposed to music from a young age and his earliest memories are of Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and Status Quo. Finally at the age of 13 Rob picked up the guitar, a black dreadnaught his Mum purchased using the weeks rent money. "Sorry Dad". Many afternoon's were spent practising (to the detriment of his studies). His teachers? Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Van Halen and an Aussie known at the time as Johnny Diesel. By age 15 Rob was penning is own songs and performing them in front of hundreds of his fellow students. That spelled the end of his school life as he quit to chase greener pastures "The stage!".
-----------------------------------------------------By age 18 Rob and his brother Rodney formed a group called "Brother Louie" and recorded 13 original songs. Though this never saw the light of day, they were playing regular gigs and held a residency for well over a year at the local pub. This further fuelled Rob's fire for performing. The next endeavour was with the band 'Juvenile Justice'. They produced their own live 'EP' and enjoyed moderate local success.
-------------------------------------------------------Since
then Rob has continued to write and perform in various bands culminating in 2006 with the release of his EP 'Hollywood Hills'. Produced by Peter 'Reggie' Bowman (Tommy Emmanual, Pre-Shrunk), it was recorded and mixed in 2 days. The title track 'Hollywood Hills' has enjoyed airplay in the US, England as well as in Australia and limited shows around Sydney have helped grow his audience. A definite throw back to the 70's, it was a collection of straight ahead rock tunes and heart-felt power ballads. Rob's earnest and emotional vocals on 'These Heavy Hands' demonstrate the power and honesty in his voice. Stand-outs are the title track and 'Underground'.
-------------------------------------------------------After
taking the songs on the road for a year or so, Rob decided that it was time to get back to basics and do some solo acoustic shows. He has also begun writing for what will hopefully be a full-length release in 2008. "It's going to be very different to Hollywood Hills" says Rob. "It will have more layers and a strong acoustic vibe to it".
