Rel Princeton is a name that speaks for itself. Raised by a single mother who taught him the importance of expressing yourself with confidence and being a gentleman grew up very articulate and well mannered. His passion for self expression led him into discovering his talent for writing poetry. As a child he won numerous poetry reading contests for his school and even ventured into stage acting which helped him develop his unique style and character along the way.
But it wasn’t until one faithful day walking home from school when he first heard Dr. Dre’s “Nuttin but a G thang†blasting through the speakers of a nearby vehicle where he found his new formed love for Hip Hop. “I would go home and rehearse other artist’s raps and try to keep up with the greats†he says, eventually writing his own lyrics creating songs about his life’s struggles and dreams. With the help of his mother he invested in his own home studio and spent endless nights perfecting his craft until writing and recording became almost second nature to him.
After years of recording hundreds of songs, releasing a couple mixtapes, performing at local venues, starting a new family, and the birth of his son Riley Princeton , he knew he had to take the next step in his career. With the help of a mutual friend he linked up with I E super producer Fingazz who has been responsible for numerous singles on the radio. They instantly clicked and Fingazz helped Rel improve his sound to reach its full potential. They recorded three radio ready singles and the rest is history.
In 2008 Rel has worked with artists such as Ray J, Warner Bros. recording artist Jah Free, producer Fingazz, Joi Marshall of 90’s R&B sensation Jade, and many more to come. He is also gearing to release his first single “Spotlight†feat. Ray J on radio stations across the country and will be shopping for a record deal to find his album a home. I see a very bright future for this kid; he is young, talented, charismatic, and very humble. He is classy and genuine in every way; he was born to be a star. “My motto is never forget where you came from or you will never get where you’re goingâ€. “I will always be in the same level as my fans no matter what, every e mail, letter, or hello will be responded, I will always find time†And at the end of the day God and family is the most important for Rel for he says no one can take that away from him. With everything going for him and still managing to stay the same, that’s what I thinks puts him definitely “A class above the restâ€.
