About Me

Listen to my world music show, Earthtones, on 88.3 FM WQNA, Springfield, Illinois on Wednesday nights from 9:00 PM - 12:00 AM Central Time. By clicking the graphic below you will be taken to WQNA's home page where you can listen live to the station stream. You can listen to the WQNA stream live 24/7. WQNA is high school student radio during the day and community radio during the evening and weekend hours. It is commerical free :)
Also listen to EClectro on interFACE pirate radio. Each Sunday evening my partner eted and I do an Internet radio show from 6:00 PM - 10:00 PM Central Time. My half of the show is 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM and I focus on electro. Click on the image below to visit the Interface web site chat room where you can connect to the stream. Interface features music shows from DJs around the world and draws a global audience so it is worth checking out no matter what time it is in your part of the world.

My Interests

My interests include world music, video, community and Internet radio, old houses, auctions, antique stores, thrift shops and green iguanas, turtles, birds and cats. I have lots of houseplants and a crazy Barbie collection too (as well as lots of other toys - many from my own childhood). One of my favorite antique gadgets is the stereoscope (and of course the vast variety of cards to view with one). I like gardening - fruits and veggies as well as flowers. I also like playing "The Sims 2."..

I'd like to meet:

I would like to meet hopeful people with a positive outlook and a good sense of humor. I like people with wide variety of interests and who aren't necessarily anything like me. I also hope to meet people who create and perform world music and electronica, people into digital video production and other community radio DJs.

Music:

..World Music (especially African, Jamaican, Indian and Middle Eastern) and various electronic stuff (especially new and old skool electro and old ragga jungle). I also really like the fusion of electronic and world music together. January 2007: I recently watched a great video of John Coltrane performing on "Jazz Casual," which I picked up from a flea-market (what a great find! - it is on Rhino home video in case anyone else is interested it).

Movies:

Most recent movies watched at home - (September 2007): "West Beruit" (1998), "Vampire Happening" (1974), "The Vertical Ray of the Sun" (2001), (August 2007): "Hairspray" (1988), (April 2007): "The Hustler" (1961), (March 2007): "Death Takes A Holiday" (1934), "Star Trek - The Wrath of Khan (1982), (January 2007): "Casino Royale" (1967),"The Apostle" (1997), (December 2006/January 2007): "The Godfather (parts I, II, and III)" (1972, 1974, 1990), (November 2006): "Suddenly" (1954), (October 2006): "Ecstasy" (1933, Austrian silent film), "Hard Rock Zombies" (1983), re-watched "Swimming To Cambodia" (1987), (August 2006): re-watched "Clerks" (1994), (June 2006): "Freaks" (1932), and the Marx Bros. in "Cocoanuts" (1929), (August 2007): "Hairspray" (1989), "The Man Who Played God" (1928). Most recent theatre movies/documentaries I have seen: (July 2006) "An Inconvenient Truth," "The Devil Wears Prada," "Clerks 2," "A Scanner Darkly." (September 2006): "Troubadours" (local film shown at Route 66 Film Festival), (December 2006): "Casino Royale." (January 2007): "Pan's Labyrinth," (July 2007) "Sicko," "Hairspray," "The Simpsons Movie," (August 2007) "Talk To Me," (November 2007): "Into The Wild," "Bellla." I tend to like foreign films, old films, independent films and documentaries.

Television:

..
Hawaii Five-O, King of the Hill, This Old House, Frazier, most PBS Britcoms, and I like nature and science shows. I don't have cable because there is plenty of free crap on broadcast TV to rot your brain with, lol. If I had Dish Network, I would watch Free Speech TV. I especially hate reality TV shows and talk/drama shows (like Morey and Jerry).

Books:

..

I tend to read more non-fiction than fiction, but I do enjoy a good novel. Recently finished Reading Philip K. Dick's, "A Scanner Darkly." Feb 2007 - Finished reading Robert Whitaker's "Mad in America - Bad Science, Bad Medicine, and the Enduring Mistreatment of the Mentally Ill." April 2007 - Finished "Even Cowgirls Get The Blues," by Tom Robbins. September 2007 - "Cup of Gold," by John Steinbeck. Currently reading, "Blaming The Brain, The Truth Abouth Drugs and Mental Health," by Elliot S. Valenstein.

Heroes:

Mother Jones, Emma Goldman, Margaret Sanger, Judi Bari, Joe Hill, Joseph Campbell, Emilie de Breteuil, Con Keogh, David Oakes (MindFreedom), Mom
