About Me

JQ (a.k.a. Jonny Quest) has been a professional DJ for thirteen years and has spent the last seven years refining his music production skills. Originally from Boston, this self-taught DJ bought his first set of turntables in 1994 and has played many different types of events since then – everything from smaller, more intimate underground desert parties in the Mojave and Anza-Borrego deserts to playing in front of thousands at massive events like Street Scene. He has rocked some of the biggest clubs in San Diego like 4th and B, Montage, Cane's, and Belo (formerly E-Street Alley). JQ has been a regular on the So-Cal rave/club circuit for over a decade and has been playing Burner events for the last few years, beginning with the LA Decompression in 2005. Over the years he has shared the stage with some of the biggest names in electronic music today - BT, the Crystal Method, Uberzone, Bluetech, Omar Santana, Donald Glaude, Astral Matrix, Rabbit in the Moon, DRC, Simply Jeff, The Mutaytor, John Kelley, Frankie Bones, the Moontribe DJ's, Cirrus, DJ Frances, Graeme, Terry Mullan and Taylor to name a few. JQ has also spun/sampled/scratched during live collaborations with the brother/sister duo known as aion and performed with Shaheen the tribal percussionist. He plays a wide variety of music including breakbeats (nu-school as well as funky, hard, 2-step and old-school), drum and bass, house and trance (deep, ethereal and progressive) and dubstep/downtempo/chill.
JQ is half of the musical production duo known as Fiction Machine. Along with his partner, Chris (Zen Rhythm), they have written various styles of electronic and electronic/live hybrid tracks for the last 5 years. Some of their hybrid songs include vocals, guitar, and bass mixed with electronic accompanyment. Earlier this year, they licensed two of their songs to Nulogic Records in Florida. Their songs can be found for download on Beatport (www.beatport.com). Currently, the 11th Insight Remix and 10 40's are available for digital download. You can also check out some of their original tracks on myspace at www.myspace.com/fictionmachinemusic or just click on the logo below.
