About Me

"...If you get a chance as well, take the suburban train for about 45 minutes ish out to a place called Paldiski. It was an old Soviet town/naval base that when the Union collapsed about 3/4 of the population left leaving a really eery and somewhat falling down ghost town (some graffiti on a wall reads "Welcome to Hell" as you first arrive which gives you an idea of what it's like). One of the strangest things about it comes from the fact that although it is mostly abandoned, there are still people that live there, mainly old men in rocking chairs sitting outside crumbling apartment blocks I seem to remember..." My Interests

Music:

Band Website: myspace.com/menstillliveinpaldiski
Band Members: Thomas DEROCHE : singer, guitarist and crappy soundmaker.
Influences: Though my music is very "personal" (that's the least I could say) and does not sound very angry, my main influences are grunge and emo-punk bands, such as (to be large) Nirvana, At The Drive-In, Chokebore or Fugazi. My folk and lo-fi influences are of course Dylan, Townes Van Zandt and some brilliant current bands and musicians such as Will Oldham, Adam Green, Guided By Voices, Herman Düne, Prewar Yardsale and the mighty Okkervil River. I also owe much to the lyrics of some good French bands, such as Experience. And DANIEL JOHNSTON and DANIEL JOHNSTON and DANIEL JOHNSTON and DANIEL JOHNSTON, and sometimes the Devil i hope.
Sounds Like: Obviously I am not sure my music is smart enough to sound like anything famous. If I were pretentious (which means I am), I would say it sounds like a mix of Townes Van Zandt, Nirvana, Okkervil River, Herman Dune, Neil Young, Favez, Bob Dylan, Loudon Wainwright III, Songs : Ohia, Will Oldham, AND DANIEL JOHNSTON (hum..). Actually that's only what I would like it to sound like, and I also thought describing it this way would make smart people find me through the search engine...
