About Me

| View | High Rise Diaries are an established band on the Northeast music scene, after accumulating loyal support and a growing reputation through playing the finest venues in both Newcastle Upon Tyne and Sunderland.
The earliest demo tracks; "Bodies", "Made Of Muscles", and "You Are My Ghost" were the first to be recorded in July '05. These tracks show the band and the music in its infancy and were debuted at the Chillingham Arms, Heaton, Newcastle in the summer of '05 to a tight crowd of loyal family and rowdy friends along with the track "Honey" - which the band still rely on to draw listeners in as their opening song in the live set.

Gigs have been central to the development of the band, as this is where they can demonstrate that the songs spring to life with the energy and performance of a live set. Regular attendees to the gigs are familiar with the tracks "Theatre" and "Constant Reminder", as songs which define the band much more than the recorded material can allow.
The intensity of a live performance gives a more meaning and purposeful sound to the songs, and this has never been more evident than with the newest material. The latest additions to the live set; "Corridor", "Choke", and "Alive" were unveiled for the first time at an intimate gig at The Head of Steam in Newcastle in August '07. This new material will form the basis of the upcoming gigs and we will be recording a single in April to release later this year. More dates to be announced soon!

Sounds Like: "High Rise Diaries are on the up and up (and up) and we like what we hear. They’re playing The Cluny this month. Get in.January is a time for playing with new diaries but the Diaries we’re most coveting this month are of the High Rise variety. Yes, the HRD have, over the last year or so, quietly nuzzled into the affections of those who like to think they’ve got an ear for Hot New Talent. Their idiosyncratic indie/rock has a decidedly spectral – yes spectral – quality and they have compounded their appeal with a series of storming gigs recently at the like of the Carling Academy and Head of Steam in Newcastle and Independent in Sunderland. Their first foray into the live arena in 2008 sees them ‘hitting’ The Cluny along with The Plan For Tonight and The Rigg at a Too Far North gig. Check out their website and myspace malarkey for a taster of what the band are all about and prepare to accept them into your heart." RM - The Crack Magazine, January 2008 The High Rise Diaries + The Plan For Tonight + The Rigg, The Cluny, Ouseburn, Newcastle, January 19th, 8pm, £5. 0191 230 4474.
“Regular gig opener Honey sees the band’s torrid intensity packaged with a sugary pop skill, while The Young And The Restless plugs into the midnight tones of Placebo with a mechanistic rhythm section adding an anthemic gloss to the tale of small-town dissatisfaction. Constant Reminder sounds like it’s been spun from a dozen electric drills rather than a couple of plain old guitars. Sure, you’d be hard pushed to separate their tunes from a hundred other broody offerings, but The High Rise Diaries’ ability to carve out particularly infectious odes to unhappiness should see them ride any waves of misguided cynicism.” Andrew Fenwick – UK Metro: November 2007
