Katana was born and raised in the birthplace of hip-hop in the Fordham section of the Bronx, during the 1980s when the form of art known as rap was just starting to catch attention.
Bianca , aka Katana, fell in love with the sights and sounds of her neighborhood. Born to a Puerto Rican/mixed mother and a Colombian father, Katana grew up exposed to a variety of different music and cultures. After her parents had a difficult separation in 1995, Katana soon learned that hip-hop could be more than just an infatuation, it could be her outlet.
Flourishing first in the form of poetry Katana expressed her emotions, saturating stanzas with a wisdom beyond her years, then in the form of rap opening her soul to the people she knew would relate most to her feelings and struggles; the streets and neighborhoods all across America just like hers where females were going through and having to deal with similar issues.Katana soon found her voice, but not in coffee houses reciting poems, but amidst weed smoke and liquor spitten in cyphas with emcees and the best underground artists of her time.
Capturing the intensity of the environment around her and trapping it into syllables, metaphors, and bars, Katana soon drew the attention of European producer Mike Ladd. After being introduced by a mutual friend, Katana was featured on the single off his European release, aptly deemed PIRAHNA PARTY. Coincidentally, this led to a group spread in the May 03 issue of SPIN magazine, as well as a British publication called DAZED AND CONFUSED. Receiving numerous positive reviews for her contribution to the song critics deemed Katana the next neo-soul rap diva. Continuing going to the studio working on different projects Katana gained a collection of songs due to compilations with other artists and producers in the underground and mix-tape circuit.
Recently, Katana has performed at many famed nightclubs and lounges, gaining recognition and mastering her performance skills. Consequently, as well, those cyphas on the block led to Katana battling various emcees at open mike events as well as the infamous MONDAY NIGHT FIGHT kLUB.
Katana released her CHEETACHINCHILLA mixtape in 2005 and is now working on the sickest project EVER!!!
