I am here for Friends

About Me

fairly dry and yet somehow slightly fruity in bursts, more than a little oaky, with the faintest bouquet of bookbinding glue, chili oil, and gasoline, y con un olorcito de encierro. recorked with a rubber stopper, but only been in the fridge a few hours-- so don't be such a snob, maybe put in some soda water? i have a siphon.

oh, and my favorite color is pink. i make up for my organizational impairments by subscribing to as many newsletters and committees as i can.

My Interests

i like acquired tastes and perversely obscure cultural production. and big words used wrong, with an accent. and restaurants with glass tabletops. also, i drink lots of tea.see also: california biennale (why does kate come up with those silly nomes de plume?)

I'd like to meet:

grown-up perverts and unverts . people with both a rich inner life and developed social skills. pitchblack sense of humor a plus. people who know reasonably well what they're feeling, what they want, and how to talk.

Music:

lately i'm on a steady diet of metrosexual sounds: arthur russell, mobilee cutesy-techno, LCD sound system, and whatever else the dandies at DFA tell me cool is. and i always love me some riley puckett:
.
and angolan ghettotech. and taqsims, ragas, echo-pedally stoner-jamouts and pretensious fingerpickers on atavistic string instruments. also reeds that sit uncomfortably in noses. slskID: throwaway -- message me on theres to be granted access to the whole enchilada.

Movies:

in preston sturges' "unfaithfully yours", one Detective Sweeney, private detective, says to a man whose wife has been tailed, "Maybe I shouldn't be saying it, but if it were me, I'd never have them tailed, I'd never try to find out nothin'. I'd just be grateful for whatever they wanted give me: a year; a month; an hour." speaking of murderous jealousy, brick made me homesick (it was shot in san clemente!). some fav's: fassbinder, sturges, masumura yasuzo, john huston, kurosawa kiyoshi, wang jiawei, cai mingliang, albertina carri, torre-nilsson, 30s comedies and 40s noir, todds haynes and solondz, other pretensious malarky. and jacque tati on the big screen can be as mindblowing as tarkovsky under certain circumstances.

i don't watch movies much these days, unless they're adultbaby porn.

Television:

arrested development makes me homesick. most other tv just makes me carsick, unless it's competitive cooking or certain detective fiction, and even then, only when i'm on vacation.
