Kinky Like a Cheap Garden Hose

About Me

I just want to relax in my Smurf village and enjoy some Hotpockets and a milkshake. That's all you really need to know.

My Interests

Shaking up a good martini. Sleeping late. Waiting for Chris Hanson to get caught in a sex scandal of his own. Re-enacting Match Game, but only if I get to be Brett Sommers.

I'd like to meet:

People who don't have children. People who don't want children. People who don't want to show me baby pictures of their children. People who don't insist on me watching videos of their children's latest gymnastics meet or choir performance. People who don't especially care for children. But especially, people who don't like children but still think Bush was incredibly misguided in vetoing the bill for improving children's health insurance.

Music:

For nostalgia's sake: Toad the Wet Sprocket, Aimee Mann, Concrete Blonde, Lloyd Cole. New discoveries: Johnny Cash, Bellwether, old Journey. To sing in the bathroom when no one's around: Bobby Darin. Biggest current guilty pleasure: Since U Been Gone by, gasp, Kelly Clarkson. Song I listen to the most lately: "Don't Stop Believing" by Journey.

Movies:

Best Movie I've Seen Recently: Before the Devil Knows Your Dead--a cheerful little Holiday movieWhat I Like: Magnolia, Little Children, Jaws, Dead Again, To Have and Have Not, Emma, Broadcast News, Beautiful Girls, Next Stop Wonderland, The Daytrippers, Charade, Torch Song Trilogy, Henry and June, When Harry Met Sally, Pee Wee's Big Adventure, Basic Instinct, The Hunger, Bedrooms and Hallways, Batman (the one from the 60s with Adam West), You Can Count on Me, Bound, Sleeping Beauty, Plan 9 from Outer Space, Laurel Canyon, American Beauty. What I Don't Like: Pretty much anything with Eric Roberts.

Television:

Lost, CSI, Lost, Without a Trace, did I mention Lost?, oh, yeah, and don't tell anybody, but Cold Case often makes me cry like a baby. Lately, I'm discovering what I'm missing by not watching The Office. Anderson Cooper 360--but only when he's on location and wearing tight-fitting black T-shirts.

Books:

You mean people still read? My big loves: Dry, Running with Scissors, short stories by A.M. Homes, Flesh and Blood by Michael Cunningham, Interview with the Vampire, The Witching Hour, The Year of Ice by Brian Malloy, Affinity by Sarah Waters, Joy School by Elizabeth Berg.Favorite nonfiction: The Culture of Fear. Flu: The Story of the Great Influenza Pandemic of 1918 and the Search for the Virus That Caused It by Gina Kolata. (Want a book to scare the shit out of you? Read it. You'll never listen to stories about possible bird flu the same way again.)Favorite children's book (for me to read, not to read to some kid): Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus.Favorite kid's book that still relates to my life: Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day.

Heroes:

My dad; people who just go around being decent people without expecting to be called heroes.
