Looking for the perfect beat, this how you can define Mike Stellar's musical mission. Without confining to any particular style, his sets always give the audience an explosive mix of nu-jazz, breakbeat, deep-house, hip-hop, detroit techno, drum & bass and dub and also lost gems from the 60s, 70s & 80s. What brings all these styles together is, obviously, the groove.
Since 1996 he has been one the driving forces in the quality music scene in Portugal. First as a promoter, and later was caught up by the addiction to vinyl. Since then he has been one of the top groundbreaking promoters & djs in Portugal, first organizing drum&bass parties in Lisbon and then moving to the jazznotjazz scene, since 1999, introducing to the Portuguese Dance Scene artists like Jazzanova, Gilles Peterson, Rainer Truby, Nicola Conte, The Amalgamation of Soundz, King Britt, Koop, Kyoto Jazz Massive, and many, many others.
Ever since, Mike continues spreading his music all over Portugal in clubs, bars, parties, festivals. Basically where he is invited to play.
His first moves outside Portugal started in 2001, with a visit to Club Meierei in Vienna. Since then, he played in London at 93 ft East (with Ian Simmonds), Mau Mau Bar and Medicine (alongside Jazzanova). In Spain he played in Barcelona (La Sal) and Alicante (Xiringuito). He also played in Belfast at the J2Z Festival, alongside 4Hero, Bugz in the Attic and others. His last gigs abroad were in Budapest, playing at ChaChaCha and Kultiplex.
He is also part of Dubadelic Vibrations, one of the first soundsystems in Portugal, where he shows his love for jamaican music.
Radio has also been one of his passions, and after starting a daily show at Radio Voxx (Lisbon & Porto), he got the bug. Nowadays, hes doing the Jazz Picante radioshow (www.jazzpicante.com & at Radio Oxigenio). Also in Radio Oxigenio he has a monthly feature called Break da Beat.
He is a resident at Estado Liquido, Fluid and Mexe Cafe (the legendary Viajando na Maionese sessions that go on for 4 years), all of these places located in Lisbon
