Et Spera combines elements of folk and rock with heartfelt and almost spiritual lyrics for an overall sound that is uplifting, intelligent, accessible and with a flowing quality that ranges from buoyant to nearly hypnotic. Inspired by Mozart’s idea that music should be used to “elevate the soul†and the vocal strength and lyric honesty influenced by Billie Holiday, Janis Joplin and many others, Et Spera’s sound is ever-evolving with an accent on the positive. While Cyhndi writes the lyrics and provides the basic structure of most of the songs, all of Et Spera’s members contribute their ideas and make each song their own. The result is a collection of ever-evolving songs that range from “stripped down†acoustic to bouncy rock Et Spera has two recordings out to date, a 5-song EP Cyhndi recorded with co-founder/Guitarist and producer Paul Houston at Houston studios over 2003-2004. And a studio recording with Velvet (aka: Dawn) Dallesandro, who’s smooth and intricate bass lines are truly a testament to her name, Charlie White, a prolific singer/songwriter in her own right (find her solo site www.myspace.com/CharlieWhite or www.CharlieSongs.com) who’s folk/rock and country sytlings, earthy alto and melodic acoustic guitar sound blends seamlessly with Cyhndi’s hypnotic alto and sometimes lilting soprano harmonies, forming a sound that is hauntingly and with a strength that is sometimes wise and always distinctly feminine and often with a touch of humor. There’s an atmosphere of mutual understanding and support here, and a fun-loving spirit that really comes through in their sound and performance. In May 2006, Jenny SanAngel came on board to play percussion, adding her own hypnotic rhythms to the mix and anchoring Et Spera's sound firmly in the Accoustic Folk Rock genre. Et Spera mainly plays in and around the North Hollywood area at various benefits like World Fest in ’05 and Paws Fest and Desert Song fest that same year as well as Borders Bookstores in Hollywood, Orange County and Pico Rivera.
