after a rough start with many trial and error sessions with singers, bassists, and guitarists...we finally decided to say fuck it and stay a three peice. we started out in martys garage practicing 3 times a week and if anyone knows anything about chicago's climate...they would all agree it sucks. the original band was and still is. Jim oskvarek(guitars/lead vocals), Marty Kiedrow(bass/backing vocals), Ken Farrell(drums).anyway...about the winter of 2002-2003 we started officially writing music and changed our name from, "In Darkness Triumph".....to DARKFALL. we made the change when we moved to martys garage and realized, "this is the best fucking bassist in the chicago metal scene" locally of course.we recorded our first 4 song demo in november of 2003. the track listing was 1. Illusions of Freedom, 2. Mark of Betrayal, 3. Endless Struggle, 4. The Voice of Defiance. we recorded at ARS studios which looked amazing because of all the equipment they had but turned out to be shitty because they didnt use any of it. But whatever, we're on disc.our first show was decemeber 26th of 2003. we played in a church in front of about 75 people. we played 5 songs...all originals except we opened with damned in black from immortal. we were even asked to headline our first show which we thought was cool at the time but now we realize headlining anything locally sucks unless you have a big fanbase cuz everyone usually leaves. but all in all...it was a good show.in the spring of 2004 we moved from martys garage into the shed. the shed is a , heated, air conditioned, insulated, half soundproof, carpeted badass place to practice. it is located in kens backyard.in the summer of 2004 we recorded our first full length album entitled, "Violent Social Propaganda". all 8 tracks are listed as follows... 1.Violent Social Propaganda(intro), 2. Angel of Darkness, 3. Mark of Betrayal, 4. Silenced Revolutions, 5. The Voice of Defiance, 6. No Tomorrow, 7. Illusions of Freedom, 8. In Vein. VSP was recorded by Tim Russin a.k.a. THE FUCKING MAN. this guy kicks ass...he came to the shed with all his equipment for all 3 days of recording and mixing. he had us sit next to him and did anything we asked(which is by right his job but most engineers are faggots and dont listen to the musicians input because what do they know about music? they only created it right?) he also charged next to nothing..i think it was $25 an hour and $20 a song to master. we finished the entire thing in 3, 8 hour sessions and had the master the next week. and if you have heard our cd the sound is excellent. www.rmsrecording.com this guy is the shit and a very nice guy...i would suggest using his intelligence.we've played numerous shows including...2 shows at oasis 160(one of which was international), lot 4, j.t. music, soundlab, los cazos, bethany union church, mojoes, the basement, omalleys bar, hott coffee,We finished our second full length album entitled "Hatred is Purity" which includes 10 songs. Hatred is Purity picks up where v.s.p. left off but with more style and groove. we're very proud of it and we hope you all enjoy it. anyone who wants a copy just mail us here at myspace and we'll send you a free copyWe recorded Hatred is Purity with Matt Mercado. Matt is very much involved in the chicago music scene as well as the world music scene. he had an article with metal edge and was rated the 1 underated musician in the last 20 years!! learn more about him at mattmercado.com. let me tell you, not only is he a great guy, very funny and relaxed...he's an amazing sound engineer. he has great equipment and a great ear and mind for recording. he let us do our own thing in the studio and at the same time helped us to capture our sound by simply listening to our music and figuring out where we wanted to go with it. in other words...he was direct and exacting...letting us know when we messed up or if he had better ideas for a solo or tone. trust me it would be wise to listen when a sound engineer has better ideas...because 9 out of 10 times theyre usually right. Matt Mercado was an awesome guy and our cd still hasnt been mastered for whatever reason (JIM, JIM, AND JIM) but as you can tell...the mixed version still sounds amazing! thanks again matt!.......and beware of or new official mascot!!! he's a fucking animal.....
