People who can tell me the answer to: Life, the Universe, and Everything. People who can tell me the Question to the answer to Life the Universe and Everything. Some people I admire for various reasons and would like to have coffee with are; The Dalai Lama, Bruce Willis, Anita Roddicik (R.I.P), Ralph Nader, Tom Robbins, Boudicca, Jesus Christ, Buddha, the Prophet Mohammad, Chief Josef of the Nez Perce Indians, J.R.R. Tolkien, Beethoven, Catherine De Medicis, Leonardo de Vinci, Darwin, Benjamin Franklin, Rob Roy MacGregor, Jerry Garcia, the first being to use fire as a tool. Vin Diesel is yummy, and I would love to play D&D with him! I want to meet the Rebels and the Geeks, Dusty Angels and the Undercover Freaks. I want to meet the Teachers and the Seekers, the Bard and the Page of Cups. Any one who can hold an intelligent conversation with out being too opinionated. Open people make the world shine more brightly, and I want to meet THEM. People free of worries of class, race, religion, clique, gender, any of the social pressures that plague our day-to-day lives. I want to meet people who are unafraid to step out of their routines every once in a while, and meet me on common ground with the interest in expanding boundaries, learning, sharing, enjoying the life that we have, for whatever duration. Now I sound like some new-age hippy. Don't be fooled.
In no particular order; Paul Oakenfold, The Chemical Brothers, Darude, DJs Mars and Mystre, DJ Shadow, The Beatles, The Doors, Godsmack, Paul van Dyk, Rush, Scooter, Beth Orton, Korn, Oingo Boingo, The Grateful Dead, Moody Blues, Dava Premal, Dave Matthews Band, Blues Traveler, Counting Crows, Celtic music-yes bagpipes too-, Floater, White Zombie, Pink Floyd, Temple of the Dog, The Mermen, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, DJ's Sasha and Digweed, Kruder and Dorfmeister, Metallica, Nine Inch Nails, Brooklyn Bounce, Gorillaz, Tori Amos, Zeppelin, Collective Soul, Live, Alice in Chains, STP, Portishead, Sarah McLachlan, The Phantom of the Opera, Bjork, Lauren Hill-god that woman can SING-Depeche Mode, Morcheeba, Dead Can Dance, Lynyrd Skynyrd, CCR, Orbital, E.A.R., Lost At Last, Adam Freeland, Aphrodite, DJ Irish, DJ Tiesto, Daft Punk, Sublime, Moby, Massive Attack, Morphine, Guns n Roses (SO?), Enya, Enigma, Deep Forest, Classical, most Jazz, Blues, funky different styles, some 80's. I listen to and enjoy many more artists, however, a comprehensive listing may become boring to the average reader, and my profile is lengthy enough as is. I do recommend a beautiful dvd video called One Giant Leap. It takes excerpts of some awesome people talking about various subjects(eg. time, death, god, love, you get the point) and then great music, much of it tribal, and fuses it all together. It's alot of fun, and makes you think a little more about... stuff. Yeah, stuff!
Also this last weekend at the Decompression Party I saw a show called the YardDogs, or something like that. Great sound, creepy/cool stage performance, fun to dance to and visually snaring my attention, I would definitely look for them again!!
Superman Returns is my favorite movie so far this year! Good God that man is HOT! Heh. Not to mention he truly does justice to the role. The Princess Bride, Monty Python- Holy Grail, Muppet Treasure Island, Muppets in Space,The Mummy, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, TLOTR trilogy, Serenity, Ninja Scroll, Neverwhere(this was actually a made for T.V. movie, but it rocked!), Lilo and Stitch, Labyrinth, As Good as it Gets, Office Space, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, The Highlander-just the first one, Master and Commander, K-Pax, The Usual Suspects, 12 Monkeys, Akira, the Alien series, Pitch Black, Road to Eldorado, Sin City, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, Ghost in the Shell, Pirates of the Caribbean, the original Star Wars, the Phantom Edit of Starwars Episode 1. Good action flicks with kickass fight scenes and big subsonic explosions that cause your feet and fingertips to tingle. I do also like movies featuring REAL actors. You know- those rare few people who can believably portray a ficticious or real character...
I don't own a television. I don't enjoy watching tv very much, but I do occasionally watch it when I go other places. I used to watch more, but it disturbed me to see my son watching it with me...even if it was only The Magic School Bus. I have always enjoyed some tv, but my current preference is to keep my viewing minimal. Shows I love are: The Tick, Avatar: the Last Airbender, Aeon Flux, The Simpsons, South Park, Vultron(old school style), Seinfeld, Mystery Science Theatre 3000, Firefly, Star Trek, Spiderman, the X-Men, Transformers, That 70's Show, the History Channel, the Food Network (nothing like watching a bunch of hog sized people barbecuing up half a hog) and all the gardening stuff on PBS. I like the Discovery Channel to a certain extent-never enough info on the topic- and I like those shows where they go into someones messy house and ruthlessly clean it for the sobbing/sniveling/defiant occupants-watch out Andrew! Firefly was awesome even though I only watched it on DVD. I guess in all reality, books ARE my tv. I would much rather sit down with a book than stare vacantly at the tube.
First you must understand that I read almost compulsively. I re-read the Lord of the Rings every year, and have added the Silmarillion to that diet as well. I enjoy re-reading books a lot. To me it is like visiting old dear freinds. Here are a few long time-or relatively new favorites: LotR, Silmarillion, Hobbit, Song of Fire and Ice by George R. Martin, Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy, Elric of Melnibone, Ender's War- shall we just include ALL his books? Yes, Speaker for the Dead, all of the Bean series. Wasted;Memoir of Anorexia and Bulimia, Mists of Avalon, Pride and Prejudice, Harry Potter, Delta of Venus, Clan of the Cave Bear, Green Angel Tower one and two, as well as Memory Sorrow and Thorn, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish, The Warhound and the Worlds Pain, Gloriana, A People's History of the United States, the Chronicles of Narnia, Dune, Lord Valentine's Castle, certain graphic novels and comics, artsie books, selected literature and non-fiction, Pulp Magazine. A few of the authors I admire a lot are William Gibson, Isaac Asimov, Alexandre Dumas, Bradbury, Chalker, David Eddings, C.S. Lewis, Ed Greenwood, R.A. Salvatore, Margaret Weiss and Tracy Hickman-so much so that I named my son Tanis after one of the characters in their books-, Michael Moorcock, Dr. Seuss, Richard Scary, Piers Anthony, Ursula K. LeGuin, Patricia McKillip, Robert Silverberg, Troy Denning, Shel Silverstein. Cereal boxes are moderately entertaining as well. I guess literarily (is that a word?) speaking, I prefer junk food fantasy novels to anything particularly nutritious for my mind. Maybe someday I'll be able to finish Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee-if any book can make you feel bad for being white, this one can. There are soo many more...I can always remember when I'm not sitting here typing. And I must mention my handy and much used 3.5 Players Hand Book-NO gamer should leave home without it.
The Tick. My mom, who singlehandedly raised four kids-Damn she's good! The balm to my scorched soul, Andrew Valintin.
