One of my main goals here in Japan is to travel as much as possible. I suppose I'd like to meet anyone in Japan who'd be interested in doing a little travelling or anyone who lives somewhere interesting who might be able to show me around.
Anyone who wants to rock!
Ugggh… Okay, let’s say this. First off I love the old guys, The Beatles, David Bowie, The Who, The Doors, you know. I’m pretty much into Indie, Alternative, Hard Rock, Punk and Metal. I like all the bands I’m supposed to (Indie= Modest Mouse, Arcade Fire, Bloc Party, etc. Alt: Radiohead, Punk=Ramones, Sex Pistols, NOFX, Rancid, Metal= Judas Priest, Metallica, Slayer, Black Sabbath etc.)
I’ve heard of and like many lesser known bands but there are also many that I don't know of yet, that I should. So if we did the “Oh, do you know….†Game, I’d do so-so.
I like to see live music, so if I see a band that I like I’ll get the CD or demo, and that’s what I mostly listen to. So, usually if you ask me, “So, what have you been listening to lately?†The answer would sound like, “Well last night , I listened to Red Planet and Nikugaja’s live CD. Then today when I got home, I listened to Paradise’s Happy Rain demo and some Chinaski Lunchbox.†And then you’d say that you’ve never heard of any of those bands then the conversation would be over.
I’ve seen a lot of movies. Once again, I like everything I’m supposed to from Casablanca - Raging Bull – Caddyshack – The Shining – Lord of the Rings. I do however hate the new Star Wars movies and people get weird when I tell them that I didn’t like Donnie Darko. I love Kurt Russell and John Carpenter (Escape from NY, The Thing, Big Trouble in Little China), I’m really into SF and Horror. Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness. The old Planet of the Apes. A Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More, The Good, The Bad and the Ugly. The Seven Samurai. Buffalo 66. Anything by Wes Anderson. Anything with Bill Murry. Studio Gibli (Japanese Animation: My Neighbor Totoro, Laputa, Princess Mononoke, Howl’s Moving Castle, etc.) Any Japanese Animation for that matter. This is Spinal Tap. UHF is one of the funniest movies that no one knows about (you have to like Weird Al I guess). I enjoy summer blockbusters and the new superhero movies they keep making.
I don’t really watch TV but… The old Twilight Zone, the old Outer Limits, The old Star Trek, Dragnet, Taxi, Cheers, Moonlighting, That 70’s Show, 24, X Files, CSI Miami, Smallville, The Kids in the Hall, Mr. Show.
The Simpsons, South Park, Invader Zim, Sealab 2021, Space Ghost, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, pretty much anything on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim, Spongebob Squarepants, Mr. Meaty. Naruto and most Japanese animation.
I hate reality TV.
The Lord of the Rings by JRR Tolken, Anything by Ernest Hemingway: A Farwell to Arms, The Sun Also Rises, To Have and to Have Not. The Life Of Pi by Yann Martell, 1984 by Goerge Orwell. Shogun by James Clavelle. Anything by Haruki Murakami. The Time Machine by HG Wells. Hyperion by Dan Simmons. Harry Potter by JK Rowling. Books about Japan: Culture, History, People. I don't know, I'm always reading something!
