Why do they call him a legend? DJ Belal is currentley the official DJ for Chubb Rock & Rakim one of the greatest rappers of all times.
DJ Belal started out DJ'ing at the age of 16 with some of the legends of hip hop. DJ Belal crew consisted of RAKIM, BIZ MARKIE & CHILL aka Darell "Chill"Mitchell .So you Know who won those battles.
DJ Belal recalls "We all grew up together I use to give house parties down in my basement and they became legendary on Long Island.What a lot of people doin't understand is that some of the greatest artist in Hip hop came from Long Island.RAKIM,BIZ MARKIE, EPMD,DELASOUL,PUBLIC ENEMY .LEADERS OF THE NEW SCHOOL, GROOVE B CHILL, just to name a few".
As Dj Belal's popularity grew he got together with a couple of friends Groove & Chill and they formed the group Groove B Chill and soon were signed to Uptown Management by Andre Harrell and made their first record Uptown's "Kickin It" on MCA records. Soon afterwards the group met movie directors Reggie and Warington Hudlin and together they made the cult hit movie "House Party" ."Yes I am the original DJ Belal minus the bad breath, The movie was based on our times at the house parties I use to give at my house parties Alot of that stuff happened to us those were great times". Soon after the group was signed to A&M records they recorded the underground hit "Hip Hop Music" and released their debut album starting from zero the group parted ways in 1991. DJ Belal regrouped and went back to his grind of rocking parties and production skills . DJ Belal recalls Biz Markie's advice about the need to break into the celebrity party circuit. So Biz started letting him open up at various parties "I think that was a turning point in my DJ career because it showed me how to entertain a crowd instead of just playing records".
DJ'ing is a lot different these days .The DJ's are making a hell of lot more money than ever before but it dosn't make all of them good. Competition is at its highest peak now but what is laking is experience. Experience is what The LEGENDARY DJ BELAL HAS. He has played at some of the hottest clubs on the east coast and with some of the hottest DJ's on the circuit check out the pics .
