Over the last three years, CK9 and the Old E Allstars have attracted a large, consistent following in the Pittsburgh area. They've done it with slammin funk grooves that get the people dancing, and Blues Ballads that often leave fans with goosebumps. The Allstars perform mostly original material, with a few soul/blues classics rounding out each set. The band tries to treat each member of the crowd as if they're a part of the show, often times exchanging humorous banter with fans and turning the mic on them for well-known songs like "Funkadelica." They keep the music interesting by utilizing their wide range of musicians. Whether it's an intense percussion breakdown, smooth sax solo, or blazing rock guitar solo, they always keep the audience in suspense.The Allstars have performed at all of Pittsburgh's hottest venues and clubs, including Mr. Smalls, Diesel, Hard Rock Cafe, Pepsi Roadhouse, Club Cafe, Market Square, and many many more. They've headlined shows at Mr. Smalls and Hard Rock Cafe, and opened for national acts at both venues. Due to their energetic stage performance and large following, the Allstars have participated in many sponsored events throughout the city and have received a lot publicity in the process. The band's been advertised in City Paper and on WDVE, and their music has been played on WYEP. Last February, the band performed a show at Mr. Smalls, which was filmed and placed on Comcast On Demand.
Boasting a roster that runs deep with seasoned players, CK9 and the Old E Allstars was formed by Chris Kratt in December of 2004. The six piece ensemble consists of Chris Kratt, "CK9", on rhythm guitar/vocals; Kyle Lawson on vocals/lead guitar; Tony "T-Funk" Thomas on Bass; Dave Varasse on drums; Taki Batis ..s; Aaron Bennet on Saxophone; Mark Custar on trumpet;Miguel on percussion. Prior to creating the Allstars, Kratt, a.k.a CK9, toured the tri-state area with the jam band, Pied Piper. Lawson, Thomas and Varasse released two albums as the rock/blues trio, Spin Cycle.
The group loves to play for new crowds and has played many festivals and venues from Huntington WV to Erie PA. They're debut album, "Funk In Your Hand," was released in the fall of 2006, featuring a mixture of funk and R&B jams. Their new album will drop by late summer, so keep your eye on that, and don't forget... Aint No Party Like An Old E Party Cause An Old E Party Don't Stop!
