Alive or dead... and in no particular order: Poncho Sanchez (again), Frida Kalho, Gil Scott-Heron, Cal Tjader, Marisa Monte, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Beastie Boys, Abe Lincoln (really), about a zillion different composers, writers, and film makers... Let me just say ""SHI-KIN HARA-MITSU DAI-KO-MYO". This phrase can't be translated directly into English. One interpretation is: "Every chance encounter holds the potential for enlightenment". In other words -- respect everyone you meet because you never know which chance encounter will hold the answers to all your questions.DROP ACID, NOT BOMBS YA'LL!
Conga drummer / percussionist who can write & sing back up.
I'm digging Poncho Sanchez, Marisa Monte, OzoMatli, Shakira, Stones, Zeppelin, Beck, Steely Dan, Frank Sinatara, Bob Marley, Santana, Johnny Cash, Rufus with Chaka Kahn, Tower of Power, and Gladys Knight, Elvis Costello, Brian Jonestown massacre, Spam All-Stars, Old school SKA like the Skatalites, The Specials, The Selector, The Body Snatchers, The Jam, Madness, BimSkalaBim, and the English Beat; anything from the L.A. Punk scene from the 80's, all Brazilian music, Mariachi's, Classical music (but not so much Opera...)
I listen to everything, and I feel every bit of it.Poncho Sanchez Latin Jazz Band

The Godfather (all three of them..., Kill Bill Vol 1 & 2 (check the video bite), A Clockwork Orange, Lilo & Stich, Westside story ...and I'm happy to say that I'm the only cat who doesn't think "Scareface" is a classic. I've seen gangsta's and Tony Montana isn't one. Michael Corleone -- now that's power.Kill Bill - O-Ren Ishii's Take on Heritage

man....again a list too long to write. All socio political stuff. Current event stuff. No Hobbits or Fairies or wizards. Here's a rundown besides my BIBLE & Websters dictionary -- In my bathroom I have "The Leadership secrets of Atilla The Hun". On my night stand I have Brad Meltzers "The Book of Fate". Right next to me is a copy of Sun Tzu's "The Art of War". I keep Neil Postman's "Amusing ourselves to death" in the Tv room for quick reads during commercials (now that's Irony...) at work I have the Frida Kahlo Bio, a few medical references, and last but not least -- I carry Steven Lewis' "Zen and the Art of Fatherhood" around like a parental bible. My favorite Poem: "The Men That Don't Fit In" by Robert W. Service There's a race of men that don't fit in,A race that can't stay still; So they break the hearts of kith and kin,And they roam the world at will. They range the field and they rove the flood,And they climb the mountain's crest;Theirs is the curse of the gypsy blood,And they don't know how to rest.He is one of the Legion Lost;He was never meant to win; He's a rolling stone, and it's bred in the bone; He's a man who won't fit in.
My hero has yet to reveal themselves to me... I'm sorta flying solo right now; however, I have had the honor of spending time with many tremendous human beings. MY Dad (Dr. Hayes) Soke Sensei Hatsumi, El Conguero Poncho Sanchez, Master Chief Dean Hill, and the list goes on. Today I feature The 34th Grandmaster of the Buijinkan Dojo.
